My friends John and Erin turned me onto these books and I'm still really enjoying them. I'm listening to the audiobook for Flyte and the narrator is fantastic. The story is becoming more entangled and intricate in this second installment, but retains the readability (listenability?) of the first. I'm ready to go put the third book on hold at the library!

Update: I often find that second books in a series are a bit slow, spending lots of time laying foundational material for the book(s) to follow. I'm happy to say that this was not at all the case with Flyte. Angie Sage may well have been laying foundations for what's to come, but it was done in a thoroughly engaging and exciting manner. This story flowed well and kept me engaged throughout. My three-year-old daughter also enjoyed listening to it. I'm very eager for Book 3 now.

The second book in the Septimus Heap series and it’s wonderful. There is something about how this author takes the story and walks you around all aspects of it. I really like the different perspectives and the motivations from all the characters. I think that it add depth to all of the people… and animals and gives you a 360 view of the book. I know that some people might not like hearing about how the message rat Stanley was able to arrive in the badlands or the back story of a seemingly unimportant character but I do. To me it’s a new and interesting reading experience.

I’m really enjoying this series. It’s hard not to compare it to Harry Potter, but even though both books deal with wizards, the worlds are so different. This book was full of adventure and mystery. I was able to correctly guess a few of the reveals, but it is a young adult book, so I wasn’t expecting anything crazy. The narrator for this audiobook was different than the first. I will say the production value went down. There was no music, and for some reason, it kept saying “this ends disc one”, like they just took the audio from CDs or something.

Heartwarming and easy read. It's a nice told story, with more nuance than the first.

All my friends said the this was their favourite book in the whole series but it was kind of disappointing. Nothing eventful happened. They all basically traveled in a giant circle. From the Castle to the Badlands back to the Port and then to the Castle again.
The whole Milo Banda thing was also incredibly pointless.
I've come to hate Jenna on a subconscious level. I just wish she would drop dead with her annoying prissy attitude. I completely support Simon in his opinion of Jenna. I also have come to dislike Aunt Zelda - Especially when Marcia is trying to save the Dragon Boat. The whole Young Queen; Keeper; Dragon Master Transubstantiation Triple Spell was incredibly cliche like - OH THEY ARE THE CHOSEN ONES AND THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN PULL IT OFF WOW!!!. The whole Imprinting of Sep by Spit Fyre - Also highly cliched. It would be more interesting if say Nico or Marcia was Imprinted. DomDaniel and Simon's plot was also really stupid. Like - If DomDaniel wanted Jenna GONE FOR GOOD (GOTTEN RID OF) then why didn't Simon just kill her when he took her from the Castle? How simple would it have been to stick a kinfe square in her chest!??!?!
Septimus is a good main character. He's not as dense as many others. Marcia is my favourite character. I hope that in the future books, Septimus doesn't accumulate so much power that it becomes unrealistic. I understand the whole Seventh of the Seventh thing but it would be much better if it wasn't cliched like when the main character would get all the power to coincidentally beat the enemy.
If you watch Bleach you would know what I mean (About Ichigo)

One of my fav books of the series. Septimus is in his element as Marcia's Apprentice. We meet Spit Fyre, Septimus's baby dragon. I have a thing for secret rooms and passages and this book is full of them, with the introduction to the Queen's Way and the Ice Tunnels. An inventive world with a great story.

Okay I'm not exactly sure how many times I've read this, but this time I listened to the audiobook and I had this plan to write lots of thoughts fresh in my head when I finished and logged on here then I got distracted so hopefully I'll know what I want to say after I sleep.
