This is a classic nordic mystery: a sense of isolation and lots of staring off into the distance while connections are made and the truth inexorably comes to light. The prose is spare. The mystery is excellently plotted and paced. I would avidly seek out further in this series, when in the mood for this particular flavour of mystery.

Read this for a work book club. It was pretty good. I think I was satisfied when I finished the book but as I kept thinking about it more questions arose. Though I haven't read any further so they might get answered later.

I loved the atmosphere of the town and the convoluted nature of the crimes/story. The descriptive language was wonderful. I liked the characters but I definitely didn't love them. Lot of internal whining happening in here.

The pace of this book was very slow up until about the last 50 pages. Then it was a race. If we had some faster bits throughout I think it would have been more enjoyable.

This one is hard to review, as I actually think it was the format which stopped me enjoying it, more so than the story itself.

There are so many point of views, locations, and timelines that in audio I was completely lost. In print I would be able to flick back and check details. The narrator also used the same voice for everyone, and the tone/pace didn't change either. This added to the feeling of confusion.

I loved the setting and listening to the Icelandic names, and on paper this would definitely be the book for me. Unfortunately I just don't get on with it, and had to repeat listen to parts to understand what was going on. I think if I were to continue with the series I would try print instead. My rating reflects the atmosphere, and plot potential of this book, but for me it was a struggle. It is probably worthy of higher but not in this format.

This might be one of my favorites I have read so far. I may like Ari Thor as I read more of the series.

A brilliant modern style Agatha Christie Murder mystery. The story is set in Iceland. It was so exciting to learn of places there!

It was effortless to read, very fast paced and the story was truly engaging. The characters had depth to them. Backstories were quite well done.

Will definitely pick up the next one!

I read this book based on Author's suggestions for atmospheric wintery reads in an article and obviously I was drawn to one about Iceland and this one did not disappoint in bringing back memories of our crazy holiday during an arctic storm!!!! From driving through the tunnels in the mountain along the roads covered in snow and with shear drops to the Arctic Ocean and people in Northern Iceland not locking their doors! When we arrived at our cottage - I asked the gentleman where the key was and he was like, why do we need to lock our doors, we are in the middle of no where oh and you better park your car up by the road since it will probably be stuck here come morning with the snow coming down! !!! Then all the laissez-faire attitude about the blizzard! This book did all of that! Memories aside, I didn't care for the main character, Ari Thor being a claustrophobic rookie cop who has problems with snow. LOL And of course the unbelievable-ness of all these murders happening in Iceland to begin with. Nevertheless, for capturing Iceland more 3.5 than 3 stars and I think if you have been there during the winter, you would certainly feel nostalgic reading this novel and it does all wrap up nicely.
