I really liked this. It opens with Lolly finding out her boyfriend is cheating on her when she is buying him a new Hermes band for his Apple Watch. I haven’t been so engrossed by an opener in a while.

I liked the gossip girl vibes, these characters are the richest and coolest teenagers in New York City society and boy are they dramatic. They’re also really messy and flawed they make mistakes. They’re definitely not black and white and I liked how it was never made obvious who was “good” or “bad”. The plot progressed really nicely, again it was super dramatic and easy to read. The pacing was little wonky just before halfway but after that it was basically breakneck.

I’ve had Anna Karenina sitting on my shelves for years but now I really need to pick it up.

I did not love the first 100 pages but then got sucked into the world that the characters are living in.

Fuck this book. Just found out it’s an Anna Karina (never even read) retelling. This was fucking stupid I’m so mad....

Okay this was a harsh mini review the second after Vronsky died and I was really upset. But I truly wanted to love this book. I mean the love story was there!!! I was totally feeling the chemistry between Anna and Vronsky. They gave me butterflies and everything between them felt so true! It was a beautiful connection. But why name a book Anna K if you’re gonna add a whole other love story (Dustin and Kimmie)!??!?? It was so awful that I even skipped those scenes. Which made me sad because I never do that! (Now I understand it’s a modern retelling so that was secondary retelling was bound to happen) And then seriously a sex tape???? Like why? This book did not need that scandal? The author thought it’d be a fun twist to ruin this girls life no matter what? That’s so fucking lame. Then the dramatic ending of Vronsky dying the way he did?!? How rude! It just all felt way overly dramatic and that made me not like it as much.

4 1/2 stars from me. I really enjoyed reading this adaptation, but I know it won't be to everybody's taste. Many characters are unlikable, the amount of money splashed around is obscene, and there are lots of references to drug taking, sex, and infidelity. It is less bleak than the original, but still a tragic love story.

It has been a *very* long time since I read Anna Karenina (and loved it) - and this book has made me want to go and re-read it.

Dit is echt een goede hervertelling van Anna Karenina, voor mij boven verwachting.

Way too many modern pop culture references for this book to age well. But don't worry - there is always a naive teen in the dialogue to explain the slang. Who else is over millennial writers adding so much 80s and 90s music and movies onto their books via theme parties and film geeks? It's like Star Trek where Nazis were still being referenced hundreds of years from the 1940's. Too many drugs. Too predictable. But readable. I'll read the OG Anna K next to compare.
