Ok first off, I don't like to abandon a book, which is why I trudged my way through this one. I've got a few major issues with this book. The storyline wasn't horrible, it had some humor in it and I actually liked the characters. But here are the issues:

1. I have never read a book with so many typos, spelling mistakes and gramatical errors in my life. I mean I'm all for literary license but holy sentence fragment Batman

2. Rape rape everywhere. I mean the main characters is raped daily for a year by a guy who was raped by his father and family his entire life and then gets raped by the guy he raped but it's ok Because...

3. Split personalities. Both main characters have multiple personalities. An angry homicidal assassin one who rapes and a cute cuddly submissive one that takes it. To make matters worse one character has 3 personalities. He added a slutty one on top of the other two. So if you keep in mind all the personalities of three characters you have like a half dozen relationship pairings because gee wiz, the alternate personalities like eachother. Which is good because their other personalities try to kill eachother. Keeping the names straight and remembering who loves who and who rapes who was frustrating.

4. Cheesy words for sex and various body parts. It's your ass or anus or whatever, not a portal. Calling it a portal brings to mind video games and alternate dimensions. Also its cum or sperm or whatever, not "an offering". This isn't ancient Greece and you're not leaving flowers or a dead animal to a God. Finally it's sex or fucking or intercourse or boinking or WHATEVER most people call it. But asking for consent and then saying "Consent me hard" is just stupid. And it is mentioned more than once. And every time I have a mental sigh.

The sad thing is with some simple modifications this could actually have been a good book. It had a good base but was ruined by the execution.

Well well well! Wasn't this a whole heap of lovely surprises. The fantastic cover drew me in and then the story captured me. Sexy, filthy, vampy with a decent plot. I loved Xavier(sex) and know he is only begining to find out what being a vampire means. Am straight onto book two.

Wow... just...wow!

This is not an easy read, not by a long shot. It's brutal, harsh, even cruel. Definitely non con. Yet, in maybe a strange and twisted way, it's not all about that. There is a relationship that is building. And while some might call it a "Stockholm syndrome" and will scoff at the idea of love coming from a relationship that starts with rape... well it is fiction after all as well.

But, setting that debate aside, this is a book that draws you (well me at least) in. Once I had started, I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what was going to happen.

So, whilst it's not perfect...the beginning is a bit slow, and the latter half a bit crowded, it's still a book that has grabbed me and isn't letting go. I will definitely reread this at some point in time.

I did manage to survive another 10%, totaling 60%, just for the pleasure of giving it 1 star (applying the good old rounding up rule).

***

Eighteen months ago, I was a fat, nasty, legally blind, computer programmer who decided to try his chubby hand at industrial espionage.

Is it just me who feels a little uncomfortable, reading this part? You, know... me being "fat and chubby" and "legally blind" computer geek... Interesting how nasty it sounds in this sentence, especially being put together with "nasty" - he-he ~:/ Clear as day, the author herself has some major issues with self-image..... Is this what the book is all about? Unless ...politically incorrect much? *snicker*

During which time he reshaped my body; fixed my vision and broke me psychologically into three pieces.

Read "continuously raped" instead "reshaped"; "forced" instead of "fixed" (oh, don't get me wrong, there WAS a choice - be a vampire and a vampire's sex toy or be brain-dead and a vampire's sex toy); "broke me..." that one is true, considering all the abuse and mindf*ck that's going on.

No respect for English language, either. Grammar, spelling, punctuation... - you name it, it's all subject to abuse as well.

PS
My english isn't perfect, but I don't publish crap I charge people 10 bucks for.

This story could have been a lot better. Xaviers thought patterns and all the shit that went down in 2 very short timespans was just too unrealistic/believable to me, which ruined the 4, maybe 5 stars I would've otherwise given it.

Dark, gritty, and full of dry humour.

Xavier has been kidnapped and held captive for a year, before he is given the 'choice' to become a vampire.

His relationship with his captor, Marcus is twisted and broken, and Stockholm-y. They are trying to make it work, with Claudius as the buffer between this distructive and abusive pair.

I loved the wit in this story. It turned it into more than just another vampire story.

The world building was good. The characters were all well rounded, and there were plenty of fun surprises.

I look forward to reading the next one.

Recommended for those who enjoy twisted, with a side of funny, and plenty of sexy.

Trigger warnings in spoilers:
Rape, violence, domestic abuse, and fanging.
