I saw the news about this book being turned into a Hallmark movie back in October, which brought it to my attention, so I immediately added it to my tbr and finally sat down to listen to it now.
It's EXACTLY the type of silly romance book I love. The vibes matched Puck and Prejudice, which is another new release I fell in love with, so it's no wonder this one worked for me too.
I also loooove the time travel trope, which we didn't exactly get here, not in the classic sense anyway, since Griffin's been a statue for centuries, but he's still a person from the past who ended up in the modern world, so in my mind it's time travel adjacent.
Her Knight at the Museum was so funny, and straight up adorable. I loved the narration, the historical references, Griffin being a pure ray of sunshine and his absolute devotion to Emily...HE WAS SO DOWN BAD GUYS, I lived for his PoVs.
Emily was like "he'll probably meet more women and leave me", meanwhile Griffin was planning their whole future inside his head, as any proper romance book hero should.
There was a little conflict near the end that wasn't really needed, but it didn't ruin the book for me, so I guess it can stay.
I'm so excited for the movie now, I hope it'll be out soon!! And I hope Bryn Donovan keeps writing romance books just like this one, I require more.

This was pretty cute. I really enjoyed Griffin and Emily's chemistry! The way Griffin is able to first speak with her while he's a statue was honestly hilarious because I would've convinced I needed to be committed.

this was a cute story, but i wish the plot was stronger. i was really drawn in by the idea of a medieval statue coming to life and falling in love with an art conserver, who is then suspected of stealing the statue, but the whole theft storyline wasn’t at detailed out. it just felt like the author needed to come up with some side plot so its not all romance but it just wasn’t that good. also, i loved griffin at first, but after a while, he became nothing more than a caricature of a medieval knight and i got over it quickly. i also just never connected with emily which sucks because she’s the main character and i wanted to like her.
overall, i had an okay time reading, but something just never clicked for me

These guys are HORNY!! While this book made me laugh pretty much the whole time, it was just a little bit bad. Both the third act breakup and the main conflict were dumb, and I didn’t really like any character.
Unfortunately, this was a case of a good premise executed poorly.
The story was good enough, for a fluffy romance book. It isn't going to win any awards for historical accuracy, but I don't think that anyone is necessarily looking for that in their smutty romance choices. Whatever suspension of disbelief is required for the plot, I think most readers are willing to give and that should make this book likable. Where this book fails spectacularly, in my opinion, is in its characters, and less so, in its writing.
I don't know if I've ever found a romance heroine as unlikable as Emily Porter, and she is not helped by the cheesy dialogue and frankly bonkers decisions the writer makes in her characterization. I'm not a fan of insta-love, but I can understand how a knight imprisoned inside a statue for six hundred years could fall in love with the first woman he meets. What I don't understand is how Emily can become sexually aroused by a statue with no signs of sentience on the very first page of the novel. Is this something adult women are doing that I've just been oblivious to?
The out of place sexual arousal isn't what made me dislike Emily. I could even get behind her frankly ludicrous reactions to a statue becoming flesh and blood, all in the name of a story. Alas, I hated Emily because she was a jealous asshole.
Here's an example of Emily's insane jealousy.
1) She becomes jealous, in a dream, the first time they meet that he might visit dreams of another woman.
1) She becomes jealous when the knight speaks to her coworker and friend, Rose.
2) She becomes jealous when the knight says hello to a woman that is talking to him.
3) She becomes jealous when he says that the bride at a royal wedding, 600 years ago, was beautiful.
I was a fat kid in the 90s so I understand insecurity, but come on! Apparently Emily's unwillingness for her knight boyfriend to make eye contact with another woman comes from having been cheated on by her former spouse, but I just found the instances that made her jealous to be beyond petty and unreasonable.
The dialogue, too, was laughably bad. To conclude this review, I will leave you with an example.
For context, the central couple is about to engage in sexy-times during a dream sequence, wherein the female character mentions the hero visiting another woman that the heroine works with. This is the knight's reply.
We must speak of her ill-tempered ways no more, or my king will no longer be ready to enter the court.
And yes, he is saying the conversation will kill his boner.

Very fun! Creative use of language from the author. Griffen made me swoon multiple times
Kate & Leopold meets that Vanessa Hudgens Hallmark movie
This was so cute!!! A perfect lighthearted story that reads like an early 2000s romcom.
Sometimes I get burnt out from reading books that are super intense & need a break - and this was the perfect book to pick up. Lighthearted. Cute & silly. Low stakes.

In this magical tale, Emily is a museum conservator who is still reeling from divorce. When restoring a handsome sculpture of a knight, she has a vivid dream where he appears to her and tells her a story of a curse. Imagine both of their surprise when Emily manages to break the curse, and Griffin comes to life. He has much to learn about modern day, but is completely smitten with Emily and wants to capture her heart as well.
This story was sweet, fantasy-filled, and a spicy good time. I enjoyed the curse element and Griffin’s backstory, as well as his sweet and chivalrous persona that often caused humorous things to happen. I know not everyone enjoys the insta-love trope, but it really works well in this story. Overall, this is a whimsical and charming read for fans who enjoy stories like Enchanted and Kate and Leopold.
Thank you to Bryn Donovan and Berkley Romance for the ARC and chance to be an early reader and reviewer.
