Masterfully written and informative! I'd do a reread with a pen in hand for annotations next time around

This book was very delightful, it felt light-hearted and conversational, and I felt I learned a bit more about trees and forests.

Likely a favorite read for the entire year…I felt it could almost be an appendix to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings…the mysteries and enchantments and old-world-wonders match that of the great epic tales of Ents, and wizards, and of Old Tom Bombadil himself.
The world we know just keeps getting better the better we know it, and I have been sincerely touch and changed by my now increased—though ever minuscule—understanding of such different creatures than myself. Trees are a wonder, and Wohlleben’s lessons on their personalities, characters, and communities has enlarged my perspective, my heart, and my enthusiasm for the great outdoors like a child to a new ability of climbing a new height.
Simply delightful.

A lovely book of tree facts and reflections on forests. Read much of it outside in the garden which fit the vibe.

A very cute, but sized book about trees, the inner workings of them, how they are important and all of those fun things. Even learned some new stuff too. If you like trees, I recommend a listen or read.

Wohlleben's prose is charming and makes the trees' life utterly fascinating and enchanting. Very lovely. But it does make one despair...just when you thought you had safely reduced your carbon footprint and eliminated any harm to animals that you might have been causing through your diet, along comes Peter Wohlleben to let us know that trees, just like animals, are people too. And, just like animals, we are destroying their habitat...you see it turns out that trees in urban environments or in managed forests are markedly different creatures than trees in an undisturbed virgin forest. Humans are doing harm everywhere we turn. It is enough to make one sit down and weep and give up all hope of ever doing enough to mitigate the evil of our species existence. Treebeard would delight in Peter Wohlleben and would drink long draughts with him while talking endlessly about the growth of trees. I think they would have much in common.
