The book starts off slow, starting off with so much detail conveying how thorough and detailed the main character is. It wasn't until about a eighth of the way through that I fully understood what was going on. After I understood the who, what, where, when and why of the book, did I begin to fully understand and enjoy the book. In the end it, was a delight to read and hard to put down.

Review Taken from The Pewter Wolf
She used to work for a US government department so secret it didn’t have a name. An expert in her field. Now she’s on the run, always changing her name, never staying in the same place too long, always wearing a gas mask before she falls asleep due to her web of traps to keep her alive.
So when her former handler contacts her and offers her a way out, she realises that this could be it. But it means doing one last job for her employer, the employer that has been trying to kill her. And once she gets the true information to what’s happening, the situation takes a turn…
Let’s leave the write-up of the story there and get onto what I thought of this…
It’s Stephenie Meyer - it’s not going to rock the thriller genre, but it was fun, easy read like I thought it would be. It was one of those stories that was fun to get into and once the action kicked up, I flew through.
It does fit the Stephenie Meyer template - slow first half due to set-up, fast second half drew to action - and this does work in a thriller. Though, if you are a thriller reader, this might leave you a little underwhelmed in places as the first half does set everything up and, at times, this is very slow. I think this is why I put the book down the first time when the book first came out.
While I am chatting about things that might annoy readers, let’s talk about the romance and some of the plot twists. Ok, some of the plot twists are a little over the top and a little riduclaous in olace. But, like I said, this was a fun, beach read thriller from Stephenie Meyer so these I will forgive. The romance - the romance some of you won’t and I totally get that. At the end of the book, I was on board with. But at the start of the romance… I do have questions and I do have problems with. Within the first 72 hours of our main romance male lead meeting our lead (let’s call her Alex as that’s the name she uses when they first meet), a lot of bad things happen and yet, at the end of that, he still flirts and fancies Alex and I find that a little hard to swallow. Even a few chapters later when he is talking to Alex about his feelings, Alex does question them and wonder if it’s linked to stockholm syndrome, stress, PDSD. While the start of the romance is a bit jarring and a little ridiculous, I am glad it is questioned and develops from there.
I feel like I’m being really negative about this. I’m not. I did enjoy myself while listening to audiobook. It’s probably not one of my favourite Stephenie Meyer novels, but once I got past the slow start (150-200 pages), it became an easy, beach read thriller. I do think this would work better as a TV show or a film (I believe the TV rights have been bought) as it can tighten the tension. So yes, this is a fun beach read of a thriller, but it does have a slow start and at times, can feel a tad OTT and this isn't going to be everyone cup of tea, but hey, we can like and dislike different things. That's what makes reading and blogging so interesting as no one has the same reaction to the same book!

This is a book that got better the further into the story you got. At first, I felt like it was trying too hard to be a mystery/thriller novel and everything was far too vague and it was getting to the point where there weren't even any hints about what was going on. I came very close to giving up on the book but once we were properly introduced to Daniel and then all of the dogs a little later on, I was hooked.
Daniel was such a great character, the kind that makes you sad that fictional people don't exist in real life. The doggos were amazing, I loved them all and am so proud of them all. It was never actually mentioned but in my mind, Lola was reunited with everyone!
I ended up enjoying this book more than I expected to and am glad I decided to carry on reading it.

What a great read! Any adult who has limited themselves to Stephanie's "Twilight" series for young adults are really missing out. This was as good as her first adult novel, "The Host". I balked at first because I was not sure if the subject matter really appealed to me, and it is a good-sized book, but once I started reading, I was truly hooked and blew through it in no time! I can hardly wait to see what Stephanie comes up with next.
Honestly, surprised to see how anyone couldn’t like this book. I mean I realize everyone pokes fun at Twilight but come on, this is a whole new realm.
I read Twilight, and yes I loved it. But I was in seventh grade. Can’t promise if I had read it for the first time now, I would still love it. They aren’t written great but it’s a fun twisted romantic story for a teen to enjoy.
I read the Host a little later in life and loved it. I also can’t promise if I read it for the first now I would have felt the same. I was still a teen.
This book however, I’m reading as a full blown adult, with many more “adult fiction” books under my belt. I had no expectations going in, knowing that Meyer is kind of a joke in the literary community (although why I’m not sure, she did manage to create an empire comprised of multiple books, movies, and merch). From the first few pages I was hooked.
This book is a page turner. I could not stop reading, could not wait to figure out what was going to happen. I was so intrigued and impressed by the level of thought out in, the story is so complex. The way Juliana has to think about every little thing, it’s very entertaining. I couldn’t even discern the book was written by the same woman who wrote Twilight, it’s so well written. Five stars all the way, I haven’t read a book this exciting and fun for a while.
Yes certain things were predictable, I saw the romance coming from very far a way. I don’t care though. I’ve only read a few books in my lifetime that caught me off guard, and there are some cool twists that I didn’t see coming. No it’s not a work of literary genius, but since when did every book have to be on its way to becoming a classic?
This is a fun, exciting, twisty, action packed with a touch of romance book. If you want something to be sucked into this is your jam. I enjoyed all the characters. I literally have nothing bad to say about it.

Honestly, I shipped her with the other brother. Aca-awkward.
The Chemist was a pretty interesting audio to listen to while my soul was slowly dying at work. It definitely gave me some good ideas if I ever want to commit murder.. but sadly, I'll stick to wine and eating my feelings.
In this book, you will meet Alex.. but her real name isn't really that.. because she's a spy and does it even matter what it is? Either way, she's an amazing character and kicks ass when it comes to interrogating people. Silent but deadly. Then there's Dan, the suspect in question, who somehow falls in love with her. Eventually, everyone realizes that she was set up and captured the wrong guy. It mostly came to that conclusion when his brother, Kevin, came into the picture demanding what the hell is going on to his brother.
Of course the sexual tension was there.. and I hardcore shipped Alex with Kevin. ALAS, her heart went elsewhere.. aka Dan. Their relationship, chemistry, and smut was cute but the boy was dumb and annoyed me. He was constantly putting them in unnecessary danger.. and I just kept wanting to put a leash on him. This is probably why I secretly, and not so secretly, wanted her to end up with Kevin. It might just be me though and I will continue to ship them until I die.
Overall, it was a good book. I loved how it dealt with spies, betrayal, and shit. I loved it - I just wished I got a different ending, romantically.
Still salty about it.

This book was outside my usual genre but I had to read it because it was by Stephenie Meyer.
I really had to push through the first couple chapters. I think she was throwing so much background information at you it just didn't really go anywhere. But I am really glad I pushed through. I absolutely loved the book and wish it hadn't ended. I have to agree with other reviews that the love connection is quick and kind of unrealistic but I still enjoyed it.
I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and anyone who like suspense/romance.
