This actually might be one of the worst books I’ve ever read. How are you going to sit there and make me read 200+ pages of how the roses smell and then in the last 20 pages bring down a whole wall and kill the king AND prince. One second I’m reading about Griffin being flung into the air by the dragon and the next second, the price has been STABBED? I am shocked. And Griffin and Maggie just have a grandchild randomly….. named Merlin…… of all names? Unbelievable. I’m only giving it a 2 because I liked Griffin.

I read this book solely because my son liked the cover and picked it as my next read:

I disagree with some other reviewers that this book feels incomplete. The story is complete by the end. But definitely wrapped up very quickly in the last 60 pages.

It has some twists that are foreshadowed along the way. Some that are more unexpected.

I wish there had been more of the dragon in this story. Especially given the title. The dragon is definitely more of a cool, mysterious side character.

Definitely don’t glance at the last page of the book if you don’t want a major spoiler!!

Book (published in 2021) used a derogatory word used to describe the Romani peoples. It wasn’t hooking me from the get go but when I saw that I couldn’t push on.

Is the reason this jumped to five stars. I loved it ❤️ I just loved getting lost in this world.

The last 80 pages had me so anxious and I couldn’t stop reading. All I wanted to do was scream but I’m a very good way because of everything happening.
Plus the ending was amazing though I wish it was slightly more detailed.

I waffles between 3 and 4 stars. It probably falls in the middle just because of the ending.

Firstly, dragons. Sold. Secondly, the writing was really well done, as well as world building. I loved the evolving relationships in this. The siblings from the north were an interesting dynamic that I wanted to see more of.

But there were 10 loose ends that needed to be tied together, and it felt as if the authors tied up 2 and acted as if that was enough, and then ended the book with a major cliff hanger. Literally, the very last word throws you for a complete loop.

Rude.

A mysterious magic with cool dragons? A corrupt monarchy? A sweet romance? All the makings of a lovely story. Overall I really liked it. I felt as though it ended abruptly. Like I felt maybe it could've been 100 more pages to maybe wrap up the loose ends a bit nicer. But other than that it was an interesting and compelling story about what is expected and what is right.
