Read this in one day, needless to say that I really liked it. I'll write a more detailed review if I find the time :)

Imagine that V.C. Andrews wrote a season of 1960s Downton Abbey and Hitchcock directed that instead of "Rebecca."
It was dark, creepy, sad, and well written. The story alternates between the late 60s and present day and all the action centers around the crumbling Pencraw, once known affectionately as Black Rabbit Hall. We go between the life of teenage Amber whose family can't escape the mantel of tragedy, and present day Lorna who is planning a wedding and keeps getting drawn back to the decrepit estate as her location. I could see some of the twists and turns coming, but this was Gothic lit at its best.
Maybe not the most original story, but so far my favorite read of 2016.

It's only March but talk to me at the end of the year and I promise this will be top 5. SO GOOD.
A modern gothic delight, complete with a decaying manor, family secrets, forbidden love, and a sense of foreboding that is expertly woven throughout the story. The author did a wonderful job of switching between the two perspectives and time periods, not letting one overshadow the other. She leaves each section with a cliffhanger that keeps you riveted, and desperate to read more. At times a sad and heartbreaking read, but there is some light that shines through the darkness in this one.
Black Rabbit Hole is a place full of mysteries: four kids with souls of wilderness, exhilarated, even though not the wealthiest. Their spirit is broken and I have to say that you can rarely read a book that deals with such topics in such manner. The story of Amber was surprsingly fascinating. Heartbreaking as well. The story of Lorna - I didn't feel it. I think I got a little biased because she didn't make a good first impression on me and even though I got to like her in the end, I just didn't care about her as much. I, however, very much enjoyed the change in narration. It allowed us to discover the mystery alongside Lorna, which was a very wise writing decision. And I think I can freely say that all the faults I've found in this book were redeemed by its ending.

✨️REVIEW✨️ Black Rabbit Hall by Eve Chase
3.5 ⭐️
I've wanted to read this for a while,a historical romance.
Well it was historical, in the fact of the house's family history, there was romance (there was a wedding and babies involved) but it was so depressing.
The story itself is good, and it's written well and easy to follow even though it flits back and forth between past and present and different characters. It was very descriptive, found it a bit slow in places.
This does make you realise how much the entire family balance is affected with a loss, and how much others have to take on new roles far greater then they should need to.
The main characters (there's lot of them) have a lot of different personalities and stories and adventures to tell, personal growth is minimal and only a couple of the characters are actually likeable.
The book cover is beautiful as you can see, and kind of makes you think its going to be a lovely, happy story with a good ending etc.
Like I say good story in itself, but I personally found it very sad and depressing, actually sobbed after finishing it.
Trigger warnings ⚠️dea*h, forced adoption, harm to other people and animals. Also mentions of miscarriage.
I would read another of Eve's books but hopefully a bit lighter to read.

I loved this book. Interesting take on a "gothic" story.
