I am not usually one to read modern romances, or just straight romances in general because they don't normally have as dense a plot as I like. This book I actually really enjoyed though. The two main characters are both relatable and have a lot of depth. Fair warning though, the end of the book is not the end of their story, so you're going to end up reading the next one. I can't vouch for that one yet, but once I read it I'll review that one too 😉

A woman's ex-husband becomes her new boss after her company is sold, and he's determined to make her pay for breaking his heart ten years ago.

I'm normally not very interested in second-chance romance or extended flashbacks, but both things worked really well in this story. We witness the painful reunion of Dakota and Samuel, who harbor a lot of emotions toward each other even after a decade of no contact. Their present day conflict is told in parallel with their sweet high school love story. I enjoyed the gradual reveal of the reasons Dakota left him, and the balance of messy angst mixed with a tortuous slow burn was perfect. This is actually part one of two, but stopping here because the reviews aren't stellar for book two, and it has a decent enough HFN ending if you don't mind the abrupt stop.

She should of told him the truth all those years ago but I understand how scared she was and how young they were.

It’s a shame it was mostly for nothing and they wasted 10 years.

Got this to read on my Kindle.  Easy read, not very much thinking involved in reading it.  Interesting storyline if you can suspend your disbelief about parts of the plot.  Overall, just okay.  Not continuing on with the series even though this one ended with a cliffhanger.

I'm a sucker for second chance romance and this one really hit the mark.

Sometimes second chances are necessary.

Sam and Dakota had a love that could probably withstand anything ...except doubt.

Sam comes from a family of means and all it takes is a word or two from his father to have Dakota doubting their love. Now it's 10 years later and she's forced to face the consequences of her hasty decision.

I really enjoyed this. I'd honestly rate it higher if it didn't end on a semi-cliffhanger. Book 2 is necessary to get the conclusion of their story and I wasn't aware of that.

So this book wasn’t fully what i expected. It had an alpha male, and a twist to the office romance that I hadn’t seen before, giving new meaning to an unconventional love story.

It follows Dakota, and Samual- Sam who is taking over the business Dakota works in- and their shared past. There is huge amount of tension between them throughout the takeover. Sam can’t fire Dakota, because she’s under contract,- for a probational 6-month period- but makes her job a living hell. Will she push through- or will she end up quitting? And will their past draw them together, or push them further apart?

I loved the tension throughout the book, and reading of both points of views, and seeing not only their past, but their present play out. It was a great read that i enjoyed. I give it 4⭐ out of 5⭐.  If you like unconventional love stories, than i would recommend this book.
