Wow Wow Wow.
I am speechless, absolutely amazing.
Mia's parents are killed when his father rises up to rebellion and Mia trains with an old man to enter the Red Church(a school for killers)so she can get revenge for her parents.this may be reminde you of Hogwarts but it is just in theme, the school is taught by brutal killers, students get killed all the time sometimes by the said teachers.
Mia is a Darkin she has some ability over shadows and a shadow cat named Mister Kindly
Mia meets others there and even makes some friends and lovers(mainly Ashline and Tric) but from about twenty students only four will become Blades(Assasins) others will become Hands(servents).
at the last test Mia fails to kill an innocent child and so she is sent To Godsgrave to think about her future.but she finds out that Ashline and her brother has betrayed the church to get revenge for their dad(in this time Ashline Kills Tric) and they brought Remus(one of the people that killed Mia parents)along with about hundred troops in the base.
Mia manages to save most of them but Lord Cassius(the head of the red church and another Darkin)gets killed. she kills Remus but Ashline gets away.
the world building was amazing and this world has a feel of Roman-style world with Senate, slaves gods.
there is apparently Aa the god of light(with three suns of the world as his eyes) the Mother or Maw the god of Darkness(The Red church id dedicated to her)and their four daughters and maybe a son?
and amzing book also the Ps at the end of the book from the person who is telling this story about Mia was very fuuny.
one of the best books i've ever read.

I got to the last few chapters of this book at an ungodly time of night and my brain was so hit by the plot twist that occurs in this damn book that I stayed up until 3:40am that night to finish it. I do not regret a thing!

I couldn't put it down. It was the perfect opening to what I'm sure will be a thrilling series.

“People often shit themselves when they die” killer first line I’m hooked. Ngl this book fell off midway like idk how it got boring it’s literally an assassin school I’m low-key disappointed

Been meaning to read this series for a long time and finally got around to it. It took me a while to get into it. It probably was not until Mia got to the red church that I really started to enjoy myself but that is often then case when starting a new series and trying to wrap your head around a new world and new characters. The footnotes in the book distracted me quite a lot and I found that they took me out of the story and disrupted my reading experience. Once I stopped reading them then I found I enjoyed the story so much more. I normally waited until the end of the pages to go back and read them as some of them provided good info about the world. By the end of this book I found myself loving every page. Some really good twists at the end I didn’t see coming. Looking forward to reading book 2 now

I enjoyed many aspects of this book, however it was the length of a GoT novel, and IMO did not need to be! The book also used footnotes to include additional information that was not necessarily important to the plot. In the e-book the footnotes showed up at the end of the chapter where it was difficult to remember what they were referencing, and just interrupted the pace of the book for me. I found myself skipping a lot of them and not having it really affect my understanding of the book at all.
Pluses: I enjoyed the main character, and her snarky cat-like familiar, and the plot was intriguing and kept me interested!

A really great book. It started off a little slow in my opinion, but it didn't hold back on any punches once it got going. It was realistic in its story and characters, even though it was set in a fantastical world, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the sequel.

Nevernight was such a pleasant surprise. I remember reading quite a few 1 star reviews talking about the writing. And I do agree that it's a really strange writing style, but I think that it somehow fits the book very well. I also enjoyed the notes below the text, I thought they added an interesting element to the book. I liked that this was a story about assassins, morally grey characters - with very morally grey female MC - assassin school, magic and one sarcastic shadow cat.
adventurous dark medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I think my experience may have been tainted by the narrator. The whispering voices made me want to vomit. But also had an issue with the mixed tones of this. YA vibes but with a lot of violence and sex... I felt very awkward reading about teenagers described as children having oral sex. It just didn't meld for me. Also the morals of the characters were so inconsistent they just didn't make sense.

I read many reviews saying how hard it was to get through reading this book... and I totally agree with them.
I’ve had a very hard time reading the first half of the book with all its adjectives and footnotes (and yes I am this kind of person that has to read every single little thing) and this was the main reason reading this took me forever

I am very glad I pulled myself together and actually finished it!

Even tho the first half was kind of hard to read, I couldn’t put the book down and finished the other half in 2 days. I absolutely love this story with the character Mia Corvere!
And the way how brutally this is written? I’m all for it!
Also I couldn’t help but read all the overly dramatic written parts with a very sarcastic voice since I felt like the ‘author’ is indeed a very sarcastic person.

After reading the first two sentences of the book I knew this book will be amazing and I were right.
