I read the The Trap which opened up so many questions and when I started The Gift I didn’t know what to expect. It turns out nothing is what it seems. There are so many unexpected twists to this story. Violet’s character seems to be so unsure of herself that she is totally unpredictable in what she might do.

Adnrius is still the unknown. We find out about his background but what his long term intentions are is questioned. We don’t know where he really stands with Allyov for sure. I see where he is going to put a few kinks into the story.

By the end of this part I could not set it down and then came the cliffhanger. Oh how I hate them. I think this author is excellend in setting up stories that are hard to set aside. Now I have to hope the next part is available soon.

(this is a review of the entire series as a whole, since it doesn’t really read like 2 books with whole arcs, but rather one book in 2 parts)

I had picked up this series after spotting the characters in the Bratva Blood series and knowing right away that this pairing would be much more up my alley.

This was a fun read and I enjoyed the tropes, the steam and the possessiveness that never did verge on not-okay. Was it a masterpiece? No. Did I enjoy the occasional bad decision making of the female protagonist being an idiot as usual? No. But, at least unlike the Bratva Blood series, where it was the naive innocence of the protagonist that led to her idiocy, here there seemed to be a somewhat justified reason behind it and enough progress that it didn’t pull me out of the story nearly as much.

I think I'm bias. I didn't go into this with a clear head; I did not. Definitely did not. I feel like I had expectations for Andrius. And I know I keep talking about him lately when there's definitely more to the story but... he's the factor in this for me to even rate it as high as I will.

My reaction to first seeing him:

I mean, for sure 4 stars. For sure 4.5 stars (unofficially). But is it five? I've been super picky this past year over it because nothing really seems to give me a spark. I think I might've liked this more than the next one (though I read them in sequence so I can't say for sure I remember what is what in what book.

I'll give it 4 for now—[03/25/20]—but I'm betting I'll change it.

Having to attend the party Sergei has put on for him he’s surprised to see Violet, he’s looked into her but found nothing, but thinks she’s hiding something, when Sergei offers her as a gift to him, he has no choice, he knows what will happen to her if he doesn’t accept, also knowing she’s a liability.
Violet knows he won’t hurt her but there’s no denying that she wants him, waking him from a nightmare she knows she see the real Andrius and when she sooths him she sees his desire for her, but the kiss stops suddenly with him sending her away.
Andrius doesn’t want to take Violet with him to the meeting but has no choice, he knows she’s hiding something, and Andrius can’t help but test her to see if she will run and can’t work out why he’s happy she didn’t.
Making a decision she asks Justina to hep her look hot when they go out, so hot that Andrius won’t be able to keep his eyes off her.
There both playing a dangerous game, but when Violet decides she’s had enough of being played with and shows Andrius, has she pushed him to far, and what happens when they both find out each, others, secrets.
Does end on a cliff hanger.

I am volunteering to leave a review of this ARC book from Enticing Journey. I have to thank Enticing Journey for introducing SR Jones to me! I love this genre, and what SR has done with it has left me thrilled! Another fantastic author in a favorite genre. I have a love-hate relationship with cliff-hangers! SR has "trapped" me in Violet and Andrius' lives! I did Not Want to Leave! I'm in this for the long haul!!!

Andrius has replaced every book boyfriend that I have ever had. Sorry Violet, you have to share. :)

For reals though, the ending of this book made me cry. Actual tears coming out of my eyes. Not like most other books, where I have tears in my eyes, but they never fall. Oh no, The Gift made me cry and the only reason I think I didn't start sobbing, was because I knew Andrius and Violet would have their HEA (it is a romance after all. Also, I read the Mafia Vows first in which Andrius and Violet make appearances).

Now to get to the actual story. The Gift takes place almost immediately where The Trap leaves off. Violet is given to Andrius as a gift and Andrius has no idea why. Is Violet a spy for Allyov? Is she working for the police? He has no idea. But he's drawn to her that's for dang sure. And poor little Violet is caught in a trap of her own making. But of course she too feels the pull to hottie Andrius.
And the ending......TEARS! Thank god I was able to jump into the next book immediately.
