Review includes spoilers for Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus.
I think this was good but there's one thing that kept me from giving this five stars and has sort of ruined this series: the love. On one side I don't care about Carter and Zia being together, they never had any chemistry. Percy and Annabeth were amazing because they grew and it felt natural, book one they hated each other, book two they were friends, book three Percy was wondering if he loved her, book four they secretly kissed, book five they started dating, and Heroes of Olympus they're naming their talking about their future children in Tartarus. On the other hand in the Kane Chronicles book Carter started off with a crush, really, instalove? Meanwhile Sadie is in the weirdest love triangle ever and I cannot feel for it. Overall I wish Rick just focused on Carter and Sadie's sibling relationship and plot then the romance that turns people away from ya.

“Sadie,” Dad said firmly, “please do not refer to the Devourer of Souls as Poochiekins.”
The Serpent's Shadow is the final installment in the Kane Chronicles trilogy and I AM SO MAD IT'S ONLY A TRILOGY! Seriously, this is Rick Riordan's most underrated series, and I don't understand why, because it's SO FREACKING AWESOME! Yes, I had trouble getting into the story at first, back in book one, and I think because at first I took me a while to understand all the mythology surrounding Egypt and this new world - Egyptian mythology is not as known as Greek or Roman, and it's a little confusing at first. But when I got around to it, and the characters became known, how could I not love it? Again, Riordan is a master of diverse, funny and brave characters. And Apophis is one of the most terrifying villains in all of his book series, I think only secondary to Cronus from the first Percy Jackson series. This book is the perfect conclusion to the trilogy and leaves the right hook for a possible continuation and the crossover books with Percy Jackson (which I need to read ASAP because I need to see Sadie interacting with Annabeth!). The pacing here was super fast and I found myself turning the pages so fast and literally devouring this book just like Apophis does to the sun, there's funny moments, dramatic ones and just overall awesomeness. The final battle is everything you could ask for, it kept me at the edge of my seat.
Oh, and Sadie Kane, you guys! LOVE LOVE LOVE HER. She's badass, unafraid, not-here-for-your-shit, smart, the queen of hieroglyph magic, funny as hell and just amazing. I was so happy with her ending! I'm gonna miss these characters and this story so much!
And just to end my review, my favorite moment in the entire trilogy - MY FEELS FOR MY OTP,AHHH (or should I say OT3? I don't really know. It's confusing as hell, but I LOVE IT).
“We speak with one voice,” Walt said. “Especially on this matter. No one hurts Sadie Kane.”
Sooo, I just finished TSS, the last book in the Kane Chronicles series, and I got a few things to say about it.
First, this took me SO LONG to read. Fine, partly it was because school is just staring again, but mainly I think it was because of Sadie.
Yup, Sadie.
If there's one thing I don't like about this book (it's also the reason I only gave it 4 stars) - it's Sadie.
I didn't like her in the first two books, I don't know. She's annoying, self-centered, not my type of humor. But the worst thing about her - The Walt/Sadie/Anubis love triangle. And how Sadie can't talk about ANYTHING ELSE.
Lemme summarize Sadie's character quickly.
"... I couldn't help but imagine myself on that temple wall, sharing a romantic evening with Anubis... no, Walt... no... Gah! My life was horrid." (actual quote from Sadie)
ah you know another thing that's horrid? YOU
alright, sorry, I had to get that out. Frankly, sometimes Sadie is actually bearable in TSS, but when I begin to like her only a little bit, the Anubis/Walt thing starts again and I'm just like

Don't you think you have more urgent problems than your teenage love story at hand? I dunno, maybe, THE END OF THE WORLD?
I'm sorry for all you Sadie- lovers, but everytime a new Sadie chapter started, my motivation instantly sank to zero.
On a happier note, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Carter! I always liked Carter but now he's actually one of my fav characters. And him and Zia? Cute doesn't even come close.
I enjoyed every second of Carter's chapters and I love his character development in this one. He's no longer a kid, he's a leader.
I also loved Setne at the beginning. He really reminded me of Loki and, you know, I love me some Loki.
And then he Great. I still kind of liked him. He's smart and he may be a jerk, but he's an awesome jerk.
Also, I felt like Walt became a lot more 3D than in the books before. I didn't feel any connection to him, now I feel like I understand him and his fate more. (I still don't see what he and Anubis see in Sadie but whatever)
Zia is actually my favourite female character in this book series, hands down. (Bast being a close second). But if this girl isn't badass, I don't know who is.
The plot, once again, was awesome. It does follow Rick Riordan's typical plot lines. You know: We have a problem/enemy, we need to destroy the problem/enemy, but oh, we need something to do that first, then they spent 3/4 of the book trying to find what they need, and then they fight the enemy face to face.
But I didn't mind, it was still gripping and entertaining. Especially because Rick Riordan has the most awesome humor ever. There were parts were I was laughing out loud, okay? That's good.
All in all, even though I've mostly just complained about Sadie in this review, I really really liked this book. It was an amazing conclusion to the Kane series and if you've read the first two books, definitely read this one!
(I might keep adding stuff to this review because I feel like I've left a ton of what I wanted to say out)

And honestly, I don't like how the love-trinagle came to a conclusion. I mean Walt and Anubis are one guy now? What? I get that it's probably a good solution for Walt's curse, but I feel like Anubis is kind of getting 'shunned' away into Walt's body. And idk, I like Anubis too much for him to only exist inside of Walt. (And I know that they're supposed to be one person now but come on)On a happier note, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Carter! I always liked Carter but now he's actually one of my fav characters. And him and Zia? Cute doesn't even come close.

This is by far my favourite one in the trilogy. From the get go, it felt like it had a slightly different tone to the other two, and I knew that it was going to be my favourite one in this series. It did not disappoint.
This book had the high stakes, the drama, the impending doom which I love (what an odd sentence, haha). Most of the time, I tend to find the very ending of Rick's series not my favourite, however, the Kane Chronicles is one of my two exceptions (the first being Percy Jackson). Rick managed to conclude this series in such an excellent way which I absolutely adored!
I love how sassy Saide was in this one. She is honestly such an icon and one of my favourite Rick Riordan characters to date. The same cannot be said for Carter. He had potential, but he needs to focus more on the missions and not his love life, haha.
Quite a few of the side characters got more depth in this one too, which is awesome because I love them all. Plus, Felix at the end? ICONIC! The lack of Bes and Bast was quite frankly disappointing, however, it was made up for by the general quest, as it took up a lot more in this one than the other two books.
I am actually kinda sad that this is the last book in this series. I really love all of the characters and getting to see them grow and develop.
The pacing of this book was also absolutely phenomenal. It felt like it took just the right amount at every story beat, and honestly, could not have been better.
This book is all that I wanted and more from the Kane Chronicles finale. It was quite frankly astounding, and I am so glad that I read this series.

This book was absolutely amazing! Beyond my expectations. Everything, from plot, to its characters, everything was on point. Our main characters, Carter and Sadie did a lot of growing up. Relationship wise and on their magical levels. As for our other characters, Bast, Bas, Zia, Walt, and the rest of the lot, all were magnificent. Since this is the last book of the series, I will say just how much I loved the parts when Riordan broke the forth wall, made himself part of the narrative in some way that wasn’t weird, and threw out little hints of other types of trouble caused by magic created by “other” gods. I will very much miss Carter and Sadie’s voices.
