Hated the main characters in this book but it had a good story and it was a fast read. Now if Abbi writes a story about Rio I am all about that.

Too new adult for me

I love Abbi Glines YA books and was excited to try this one. It was a bit risqué for me and while I loved the characters stories, I can pass on all the other stuff.

DID NOT FINISH

This is going to sound strange but it’s the way this book was written that I was struggling through. It’s long paragraphs. It sound weird.
emotional hopeful reflective medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I did love the cast of characters, found family, finding yourself, and not judging others until you know the full story. That being said it did remind me why I took a pause in reading Glines, the character's hyper focus of their flaws, I heard the word pale, so many times, I was was coming up with synonyms myself. I also think it is a harmful to to have a character being the product of a teen parent, though she may not have known her other parent. The lack of protection, period, can lead to a baby. Up to the age of 21 and getting pregnant being a child of a teen parent means repeating the cycle statistically.

Now I hope to believe that readers have their own minds to not being influenced in their own sex lives, but it is still concerning that it may perpetuate a stereotype.

Page Turner!

I really enjoyed the book. Abbi has a way of having the reader connect with the characters. I hope there will be more to the story.

I can't continue anymore, I'm so bored. Sorry, Abbi.

I am a huge fan of Abbi Glines Rosemary Beach & Seabreeze series, so was very excited when she announced her newest small beach town romance book!

Lyrics of a Small Town follows Henley Warren, when the unexpected death of her Gran from COVID-19, brings her back to her mum's hometown on the beach coast of Alabama. Her Gran has left Henley her house for the Summer (which is a street away from the shore) & a list that her Gran requests Henley complete on her behalf.

As Henley works through her Gran's list of activities, she discovers her Gran wrote this list with meaning & leads her on the path of finding out who her father was. With an absent mother, Henley's Gran was her only close family so she is grateful her Gran gives her the secret opportunity to learn more about her father she never met & his family. On the way, a mysterious handsome boy keeps showing up; Saul.

Saul is a lost boy. Son of two wealthy parents who care more about their themselves than their son, he has found himself on his own for most of his life picking up other people's messes. The only person he hasn't had to look after is a stubborn independent girl he can't stay away from.

Henley & Saul connect emotionally & physically quite fast. They develop an addictive relationship, & find they have much more in common than they thought.

I did feel like the ending was not an ending. I still have many questions. Not just about how Saul & Henley end up in the future but about all the side characters including Emily, Drake & of course Rio. Abbi has announced she is thinking of writing more books in this world with these characters and I truly hope so I just feel like this story isn't finished & that is why I can't give it a full 5 stars.

4.5 / 5 stars with 3 / 5 steam.

ABUSIVE IS NOT ROMANTIC! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS A ROMANCE NOVEL. SAUL IS EMOTIONALLY ABUSIVE AND THERE WERE SO MANY RED FLAGS (liking fight club is one of many). Also the title makes it seem like singing and music would be a major element of the book… but we never see anyone sing or anything. This book was awful and I feel bamboozled. I really thought she was going to leave him after realizing he was abusive and possessive. But no. She remained passive and boring and her ONLY personality trait was being dairy and gluten free. We NEVER learn about her dead boyfriend and she doesn’t even seem upset he’s dead. Avoid this book.

Anybody else just love Abbi Glines? When I need a book I know I'm going to love and feel all the things, I always turn to her Field Party series. It's one of my favorite series of all time, so I knew I had to pick up her newest standalone, Lyrics of a Small Town.

Lyrics of a Small Town follows Henley, a girl who's returning to the beaches of Alabama to complete a checklist her grandmother left for her after passing away from Covid. Along the way she uncovers secrets, makes new friends, and of course... falls in love. I don't read a lot of books like this anymore, but I flew through this one and can see myself re-reading it over and over again. This is a NA book, but reads like a YA book. It's so sweet, cute, and only a tad bit spicy. I love finding books like this - they seem so few and far between these days. Overall I adored this book and can't wait for Abbi's next release!
