Baltimore #6
Romantic Suspense #21
Not one of my top of this series. I didn't feel the connection as much between the characters for the romance aspect. While the case in the story revealed much of his past, it felt very one sided with her talking about hers. There was also a little too much talking about what the "plan" was for everything. What they are going to do with women and children and who will go. Who are they going to go question and when. The suspense was just low for me because of that.
There has been better in the series as far as all aspects of the romance, suspense, figuring out whodunit.

This is definitely the best book in the series so far and I just love Thorne! How can you not love such an adoring, gentle giant. Thorne left a strong impression when he was protective of Lucy and Gwen in the first book and when it comes to his own turn, it's just absolutely amazing. Though the focus of this book is on Thorne, all other characters in the series are equally active and I really like to see how they help each other out and become protective of Thorne this time round. It reminds me so much of Fast and Furious 7 and Dominic's best line in the movie:

"I don't have friends, I got family".

That's right, Thorne's been helping others selflessly throughout his life and suffering tremendously for doing the right thing but it's his generosity that saves him and supports him at a time when his life is just crumbling like a poorly stacked jenga. Unlike Lucy and JD (whose passion burns like roaring fire), the love between Thorne and Gwen takes on a much slower pace, simmering until it's just perfect. Had Thorne and Gwen gotten together earlier, life would have been a lot different (maybe a lot merrier for both of them because then there would be no space for Evan). However, I think traumatic and tragic experiences sometimes bring out the true nature of love, that prevent it from being drowned by tons of trivial things (which could break the strongest bonds in a relationship).

Plotwise, though we know right from the beginning who the villain is, it doesn't distract the fun from the book. Quite on the contrary, it makes the story more enjoyable to read because now it's not a matter of WHO DUN IT but rather HOW do you get out of this tangled mess and survive the ordeal. Unfortunately, I think the book is a bit too long and drag on sometimes. This book could still be as exciting had Rose been less repetitive and condense the plot a bit more.

Overall, I really looked forward to this book (so much so I joined Audible.co.uk to purchase the audiobook version as it's still not available in the American Audible marketplace) and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. Hopefully, this does not spell the end of this series because I still want to meet my favorite characters again, especially Alec. The kid's a genius and totally my type! I have a soft spot for computer geeks and characters with disabilities (like some elf in Magus Chase series :D)

I have read all of Karen Rose’s books and they always cause me sleepless nights and this one was no different. I just couldn’t make myself put the book down and stop reading!!

I was especially looking forward to this one as Thorne has always been one of my favourite characters throughout this series – he is my ideal man! Shame he’s not real 🙂

This book is slightly different from the others as with this one we know who the bad guy is from the start almost, but there are still revelations to be had throughout the book and the reasons behind the “Why?” all fall into place and some of the reasons were unexpected!!

Told between Thorne, Gwyn and their tormentor Tavilla’s view really added depth to the characters and the storyline and they are all brilliant characters.

Tavilla is such a great bad guy – violent, psychopathic, and willing to go to any lengths to achieve his goal – destroy Thorne by going after everyone he loves and framing him for murder! Clever!!

Thorne’s friends and family all come together to clear his name putting themselves in danger to save him from himself as much as from Tavilla as well as protecting their own from becoming victims. This book brings back characters from previous books and its great to see how Clay and Taylor are getting along now they have been reunited as well as Daphne, Ford, J.D, Lucy and Stevie since we last saw them.

And of course, there is the romance element! The relationship between Thorne and Gywn gets taken to the next level, from friends and business partners to romance and some pretty steamy sex!! But both have their own demons and secrets that have an impact on both of them. It was about time these two got some luck in the love department!!

I hope there will be a continuation in this series but Karen Rose has a new book out on February 21, 2019 ( Yes I know – ages to wait!! ) Say You’re Sorry (The Sacramento Series Book 1) so it looks like we will be meeting new people with a new series.

If you are a fan of Karen Rose you are in for a real treat with this one and although I wouldn’t recommend reading this without reading the other books prior to this one but saying that, it will work as a stand alone novel. But if this is your first Karen Rose book, after reading it you will be desperate to read the rest!!

Absolutely compelling reading that you won’t want to put down!!

Death is Not Enough was published on 17 May 2018 in hardcover and digital format. The paperback edition is due to be published on 2 October 2018 in the UK

Thank you Netgalley and Headline for my advance copy of Death Is Not Enough.

Spoilers Ahead: Unfortunately, this book was very much like the others. It was very long, and definitely could have been condensed down. I often found there was a lot of repetition in the book, and the relationship between Gwyn and Thorne was very much rushed - she said she didn’t know, and the next thing, they’re getting intimate? It wasn’t really unrealistic, especially the way they reacted to a lot of the trauma. Him being aroused when there was danger was just really unnecessary, and it ruined the severity of the situation for me. There were a lot of things that kept me interested, such as Margo and Kathryn’s real identities, but the fact we knew the main antagonist throughout the book was a little disappointing, as I like to have a bit of a guess, but that is a personal preference. I’m thinking I might start reading books from a different author for a while.

More to come, as I’m mid-story, but it’s driving me NUTS that a character’s name was changed from book 1 to now in this story. Gwyn was a major player in You Belong To Me, and the events of that book are being rehashed time and again. WHY IS HIS NAME WRONG HERE?!? In other books, the plot of an earlier story is totally given away by latter books, so it makes no sense.

And why has no one mentioned this in other reviews? Are we reading the same series?

“Evan was dead. He'd lied for months, tricking her into believing he could be "the one." Telling me that he loved me. Just so that he could get close to Lucy.”. THATS NOT HIS NAME!!

I've read a few of Karen's books (although not all but I will at some point) and she doesn't disappoint. Excellently describes characters full of personality. And there are a lot of them in this book! The cast of secondary characters could fill the lawyers court room and each one is for the most part instantly recognisable. I loved the plat and the book flows really well. I loved the way Tavilla tries to systematically pick apart Thorne's life and drive him to despair. Rose is very inventive!

It's difficult to explain one of the things I really liked without possibly sounding a bit insane but I loved the depravity of Tavilla's wife and daughter-in-law. So many times you read a crime novel and the wife of the bad guy is downtrodden and abused. These two are just as sick as Tavilla himself. It's equal rights for women but probably not in a way I'd want to condone! But I do like the fact they have such a major role and imaginations even if those imaginations are evil. Told you it was a bit of an insane opinion!

The good-guy females are equally strong. I'm UK based so I don't really understand America's obsession with guns but I did like the fact that these women were armed and ready to fight for their family. The mothers may have eventually gone off somewhere safe to protect their children but they all had the ability to kick some arse when needed and often did.

I couldn't put this book down and can't wait for the next one

Thank you to netgalley and Headline publishing for the ARC and the chance to take part in my first blog tour.
