3.5 stars. I had trouble paying attention to this one. But this was really fun and I will probably keep reading this series.

Continuing adventures of Abigail Rook and her boss Jackaby. Jackaby's Sherlock-like oddness continues to be the highlight of the series but I do appreciate the growth Ritter is taking Abigail on. Will continuing looking forward to more in this series.

3.5 stars. This one was a bit better than the first becuase it had a lot more Charlie 😍 but also with the way it ended I am really looking forward to the next book.

The second in the series with this not-Homes & Watson duo on their supernatural investigations.

I liked this book well enough. It was diverting and while not exactly a gripping page-turner, interesting enough to keep me, well, turning pages. But it wasn't quite as good as the first one, and the investigation was, ultimately, predictable and a bit too slow going.

That said, I did like seeing the sometimes softer side of Jackaby and his particular insights, especially the one I shared in my status message.

And I liked seeing more of Abigail and Charlie together, though I felt like Abigail was a bit too slow on the uptake.

I was sorry that
Spoilerthe reporter lady, whose name currently escapes me, died, though, because I liked her spunk.

I'll be continuing the series, especially since the next in the series focuses more on the ghost, Jenny.

I won an ARC of this book from the publisher. Beastly Bones picks up a few months later from where the first book left off. Abigail Rook is still Jackaby's assistant on the field. Seeking answers to murders without ordinary explanations. Animal massacres and other paranormal elements.

I have to say that I enjoyed it much better than the first book. I suppose because there were some elements that were not as prominent as they were in the first book, in my opinion. I love Jackaby; I think the detective is brilliantly created and would love to read more about him.

I definitely prefer reading to the audio of book 1 except I miss hearing Miss Rook in a British accent. This book was a little bit more of a stretch than the first one with the shapeshifting creatures. There was definitely some more deaths and some characters I didn't think would die ended up dead. Now in hindsight I'm wondering if it was ever actually explained about the dragon bones being buried so close to the surface or if that was just due to the age of them. I feel like Jackaby throws out sentences with big words strung together as part of his character portrayal but they don't necessarily always make sense. I still don't feel very connected to either Jackaby or Miss Rook but at least in this book we get to see a little bit of her intelligence and knowledge about dinosaurs when they are on the fossil dig. And I'm glad she broke some gender roles at the very end and gave a smooch to Charlie. It didn't strike me in the first book how Charlies last name is Barker and he turns in to a legendary hound.

This book just made me laugh out loud right from the beginning. It's that sort of book and William Ritter is just great at making completely wonderfully ridiculous dialogue that just makes the reader smile and laugh! It's been a long time since a book has been able to make me laugh this much and I really, really enjoyed it.
Now, the characters. The characters are amazing and each one has their slightly bizarre quirks and it's really, really easy to fall in love with them. Though I will admit that I'm not completely sold on Charlie.
SpoilerI just am not really for the love story between Charlie and Abigail. It seems forced to me, in a way and I don't know... I'm just not really for it. At the same time, I'm not against it either. It's just kinda "meh" for me. I don't really care how it turns out. Maybe that'll change as I progress through the series?

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this book better than the first one. That's not to say that the first one was boring or bad--I still gave it four stars and really, really enjoyed it--but it was missing something and I think that this book fixed that in a way. I'm still not quite sure what I felt was missing before but all I know is that this book somehow felt more complete. Maybe it was the fact that we got more side characters this time?
SpoilerThere was only this one thing about the book that kind of disappointed me but it wasn't really enough to force me to deduct a half of a star even. And that would be the fact that we kinda just never really get to find out what happened to Owen Horner or if he cared about what happened to Nellie Fuller as there was slight hinting towards a romance on those grounds. Or maybe we did get to find out about his thoughts and all that and I just don't remember--I was reading really late into the night. But, all the same, it didn't upset me enough to deduct even half a star so it doesn't matter all that much.

I'm really, really enjoying this series but unfortunately my enjoyment of it must come to a halt until I can get my hands on the other books. Oh, well! Definitely am falling in love with this series and these characters and I might even go so far as to say that it's my favorite that I've read so far this year! Highly recommend!

I actually liked book two better than book one in the Jackaby series. The characters had more depth. Enjoyable read. Excited for book three, but sad I'll have to wait until August for book four.

A little slow in the middle and very predictable but I still enjoyed it.
