My introduction to this series came from a friend who said "Wheadon - read it."
So I did. And it was good.
Good characters, good storyline, good humor, and lots of interesting....people popping up.
Perhaps some day I will start reading the rest of the series.

Another romp in New York but make it time travel.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this one. The time travel, the random characters added that had just enough character to pique my interest, the funny little one liners (we know where those came from), and the whole time travel arc itself. There were still cringe moments where something offensive and completely unnecessary was added but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ not surprised. There was a lot going on, and I think the way it wrapped up made it worth it. I love Karolina, and I love Molly, and I wanted to love Nico more but she's still pretty badass regardless.
This is the last Runaways comic I'll be reading because I heard they're downhill from here, but I'll still see them in the Young Avenger cross over. For me, this feels like a great way to end their story. It's hopeful, there was some character growth, and things seemed to be continuing on but with some new lessons learned. Pretty pleased with it.

Hands down, my favorite of the series! We find our heroes doing a job for the Kingpin, get in trouble with the Punisher, and accidentally travel in time to 1907. Great plots that seamlessly flow through, great use of time travel that has a nice payoff, and fantastic artwork! I also appreciate that when we go to 1907, we meet people that also have powers and yet this book doesn't romanticize the past and just show New York at that time for what it was. Great combo of characters from different eras showing how distinct and similar they are. This is Runaways at its best!
I am one of these annoying people who only picked this up because it was written by Joss Whedon. I'm also a (queer, feminist, disgruntled) comics fan, and completely confused as to how I never heard of this title until Whedon wrote an arch of it.
If you're here because you're a Whedon fan, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It has all of his hallmarks: funny quotable dialogue, a complex but tight-knit plot, cultural references that make you feel smart (Yellow Kid as a turn of the century superhero was particularly charming), and lovers whose love is so lovely that (spoiler) it's a wonder that they only end up living meaningless lives full of regret and don't die horribly in each other's arms.
But, listen, if you're just a Whedon fan and you dislike comics or whatever, you're missing something. Part of what I really appreciated about the Runaways was that it felt like this team was created with people like me in mind - people romanced by superheroes kids, but sick to death of of melodramatic straight white people with perfect bodies stuffed into improbable costumes. I love entering the Marvel universe from the vantage point of this group of kids. I hope to see more of this series soon.

Enjoyed this. I had stopped reading the series, but when I noticed that Joss Whedon had done an arc, I picked it up again. Glad I did and ready to renew following it (albeit a few years behind the times).
I have to say... I loved this book...
It was a fun read and the characters are what super hero's are made of.... can't wait to read more of his work...

The best volume so far! I don't know any of the ins and outs of it, but Dead End Kids is written and drawn by a completely different team to the previous volumes, and the volumes after, but somehow manages to give the most depth and interest to the characters and their shenanigans.
I really enjoyed the time travel storyline, the characters interacted with each other as you would expect them to (I accidently read volume 9 before this, and it's such a regression in terms of character building, as if none of the important stuff has happened over the previous 8 volumes)
The art style was more mature - again this is the only volume with this art style, but I thought it suited the story well. The whole thing felt a bit more mature, from the art to the story to the fight scenes and showing bloody unfortunate outcomes.
The main twist was a really clever choice, it's just a shame that the arc didn't progress from here, and instead got rebooted (can it be called a reboot when it was released straight away?)

Was not feeling the time travelling plot or the insta-love.
Eh. I'm sure people who worship the ground Whedon walks on will love this, but I found it to be the blandest volume of Runaways so far. A lot of inconsequential hogwash and overly-complicated plot threads that didn't seem to lead anywhere. Plus the increasing amount of in-character anti-trans* comments from a certain man's mouth is bothering me to the point that I could care less about his respective plot line and angsty man pain. Yawn. Also: could Whedon's name possible be any bigger on the cover? JFC.
