This was fine. There wasn't really much in the way of new information, but it reiterated the many reasons to prioritize sleep.

Was hoping for more advice and strategies on getting a better night’s sleep. Of the whole book, I felt only about 15% of it was on how to get better sleep. The rest is stories about how severe not getting enough sleep can be! Its nice to have data and studies to back up my need for sleep and help rationalize why I should prioritize it, but it was not as engaging or helpful as I would have liked.

A basic guide to why you should get more sleep, complete with lots of anecdotes from people who didn't get enough sleep and where it got them, some sound research on the benefits of sleep and the perils of the sleeping pill industry, and some very unnecessary celebrity and professional sports team quotes/anecdotes at the end.

3 stars is stretching it for me, so I changed it to 2, as I would've preferred a more academic book on sleep, with more emphasis on the bio-neurological workings of sleep. And better ways of describing the research. Less chatter about dreams and more information on sleep disorders! (A more heavy-handed editor would be appreciated here.)

I do appreciate the notes at the end, especially the sources for the chapter on "The Science of Sleep".

Where “Why We Sleep” ends, this book begins.

Ariana focuses on the research of sleep science and shines a line of the gender inequities in sleep, philosophical and cultural notions on sleep, and various methods on how to change your sleep (rooted in science!!)

Not the best book to listen to while falling asleep, but definitely one worth listening/reading.

A great eye opener on the importance of sleep!

This is a valuable read for anyone who could use a little nudge to getting more sleep! Definitely a little scary too, but I guess that’s the best kind of nudge!!
I’m working on improving my sleeping habits right now and this is helping to keep me on track.
4 stars because it can become a bit of a hodge podge of facts but a good little encyclopedia on the status quo on sleep (in the US and the UK mostly).

Sleep is so vitally important to all of our lives! This book made me more aware of the need for sleep and also helped me identify some habits that I need to break immediately!
