Ugh. Shopoholic has a baby, or something like that. This seems like such an overdone/played out stereotype.
As a mother of two who has been a working mom and a stay at home mom, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was very comical and made light of the challenging parts of being a mom. I totally loved the main character and when real life parenting gets hard, I can see myself reading this book again to lighten the mood.
2.5
This book is not good. It is a gross exaggeration of life as a mom. And while that is funny at times and you may think "I know, right?!" here and there, it just completely misses the mark. Ashley never seems to learn or use her brain in any way. You can see the disaster a mile ahead and yet she blindly keeps on walking. She is too dumb to lead a story. The blogger she is obsessed with is obnoxious and I can't figure out why anyone would like her. It's not even enviable perfection. She's just awful. Ashley's husband is too absent to care about. I realize that is the point but I needed more from his character to care about his absence.
There were haha moments and some parts that were feel good but overall I did not like this one. Ashley wasn't a bad mom but she sure wasn't very smart.

The concept of this book seemed good but the execution of the book was lacking. This could have been condensed to a short story and I liked the overall storyline but there was too much filler and repetition of the concept. Sometimes it was hard to identify with Ashley even through her struggles are not uncommon. I think either the character development could have gone deeper or the story should have been shortened.
This book was (I assume) hyperbole, but even so I wanted to ring Ashley’s neck half the time. I recognised some moments and feelings. Motherhood can be tough! But I identified her problem within the first few pages. She didn’t have friends. Moms need each other. But she was so whiny and didn’t seem like she wanted to do anything significant to help herself. She was so naive. That bit at the gym drove me crazy. I did not sympathise. I’d love more time for exercise and she wasted all free moments watching TV. She also didn’t appreciate her sister at all. It would be amazing to enter motherhood with my sisters! I could go on but I’ll leave it there. Despite many annoyances, I mostly enjoyed reading. Okay sorry one more thing. By the time your child is 8 months old you really shouldn’t be so crazy over leaving her with someone else. She was an absolute psycho about the nanny but was happy to dump her kid at the gym’s crèche and LEAVE THE PREMISES. UGH.

Motherhood is a hard job. Ashley Keller joins a Motherhood boot camp in order to pull her life together after leaving the work force for a new baby. Parts of the story were relatable and made me giggle. Other parts made me cringe and want to shake some sense into these women. I liked how Latidan pokes fun at unrealistic expectations and some of the drudge work of motherhood. But I also didn't like Ashley as a character. Maybe because her hot mess of a life strikes too close to home. Fun read for mothers. Though I think her FB page might be a better read.
This is a novelization of motherhood by Bunmi Laditan (the mind behind the brilliant @honesttoddler ) that I found entirely relatable, as though she’d been eavesdropping in my own mind. Ashley is every hot mess mom trying to do it right and feeling like a failure at every turn. Laditan captured what it’s like in the brain of a mom. The storyline though, was a little forced. Ashley gets accepted to be in a boot camp put on by a celebrity blogger and I feel like that’s a pretty unrealistic plot device. She could have easily had these same adventures, experiences and failures without the reality show angle. In all, I’d say 3.5/5 stars because there are funny, heartwarming and truthful moments. I think if you’re not a mom, or maybe one of those totally together moms, there wouldn’t be much for you to enjoy. For me though, I spent the first 100 pages nodding in agreement and wondering how Laditan was listening to my thoughts.
