This one was a bit of a struggle for me. The idea's behind the story are fascinating and this kind of thing is normally right up my ally. But it just couldn't keep my attention. I kept asking myself what was missing. I think one answer may be subtlety. At times, the language that the Author uses is so overly dramatic that it's no longer dramatic at all. In other words, cheesy. I also have a problem with profanity. I find it very distracting. I can understand a certain amount, for the sake of realism, but there was more here than was strictly necessary. All in all, I was able to find enough to like about the book to keep me reading. I think I'll give Mr. Rollins one more chance.

This is a fun adventure sent in a great location. Towards the end it got a bit silly but overall, a great read!

“such were the ways of government. rather than attacking the problem aggressively, everyone was still pointing fingers and running for cover.”

I had this book shelved since forever. Finally got to read it and it was worth it. A long thought to be dead special ops guy appears in a missionary in the Amazon and a team is formed to find answers. The story proceeds with the team in danger from the dense rainforest, enemies and many more. It's action packed and i didn't find a dull moment. Loads of mysteries culminating in a single place. A brilliant plot. From Killer Amazonian plants to killer caimans. The book had them all and some more. I would like to read more of Rollins.

A recommendation for anyone who loves science fiction, adventure, Amazon rainforest stories and mystery.

This was an awsome read. Adventure, mystery, thrill, action, science, cultures, myths everything was included in the book. James Rollins, I'm going to add all of your books to my TBR pile.

I wanted to try a new genre besides fantasy/sci-fi, so I branched out into "adventure" fiction. This just happens to be the book that got me hooked on it. I've since read all of his.

Think Indiana Jones meets Michael Crighton. A man missing for years comes stumbling out of the amazon rainforest only to die within hours. He went in with one arm only but came out with both. How could that not grab you?

Non-stop action & adventure. I loved seeing under-represented Native tribes like the Yanamamo in the Amazon shown here and it seems like James Rollins did his research. Of course since it's fiction there were some liberties taken! I really felt like I was in the rainforest (especially when I was sitting on my porch in the southern summer heat & humidity), and the characters were well developed. I remained engaged and entertained, and while some of it was predictable there was a bit of a twist I was not expecting.

I had to roll my eyes at how horny some of the characters were throughout given the extreme circumstances they were in- saw a dude get eaten by a giant crocodile? Horny. Witnesses a bajillion people die gruesome deaths? Horny. Saw a dude get his legs bitten off by a jaguar? Horny. Under extreme stress and terrified for your life? Still horny. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
