This book is my favourite so far in the series, dethroning Piper/Liam’s book! Riley is just ✨chef’s kiss✨ and Lexi was a strong, independent character. Her vulnerability and empathy she showed in regards to the rehabilitation efforts of Riley’s limb loss was written so beautifully.

I think Chelsea Curto did a great job tackling a hard topic. It wasn’t just a happy go lucky story. It showed Riley’s struggle with this new development in his life and really portrayed grief from the before to the after. I respect that she didn’t shy away from talking about feelings of depression and thoughts of self-harm.

This book made me cry, it made me laugh and it made me so giddy. There are no notes I have for this book. Truly a top tier read for me. ❤️

I kept my expectations low going into this fourth book of the DC Stars series because the third book was a DNF for me, but holy heck this one really surprised me. I just loved Lexi and Riley's story, their love was organic and realistic and so damn sweet.
It's the kinda quiet love that hits you when you least expect it and just knocks you right over. The heartache and trauma and the complexities surrounding Riley's accident and rehabilitation were written and handled so well and really made the story what it is. It was realistic and relatable, sweet and funny and had the perfect amount of spice and the ending was so very satisfying! I enjoyed every moment.
**TW // drunk driving, car accident, limb loss, mentions of suicidal thoughts

5 ⭐️
3 🌶️

I have 2 weaknesses - Found Family, and men written by Chelsea Curto.

That’s it. That’s the review.

Oh wait you’re still here? Ok fine I have more to say.

Y’ALL. I’ve been thinking about Riley and Lexi since Face Off and they did not disappoint. I’m not sure any of the DC Stars boys will dethrone Liam as my favorite but Riley came SO CLOSE😂

I loved how realistic his journey was, the back and forth of his healing process both physically and mentally/emotionally was handled with so much care just like every single other thing Chelsea has written.

This one was not the most emotional of the series for me personally but I definitely can see why it would be for a lot of people. The way Chelsea writes found family dynamics is one of my favorite things about her books in general and the DC Stars crew (the guys AND the girls) definitely shined in this one. There were a couple scenes with Riley and his teammates that had me both laughing and crying at the same time (iykyk). They way they showed up for him every step of the way, even when he was trying so hard to shut them out. The way Lexi became Riley’s safe place and constant reminder that the bad days wouldn’t last forever. The way the girls were there to help Lexi process through how she feels about Riley and figure out what she wanted… I love this crew so much😭

I always love the hints for future books but in this one I especially loved the extra glimpses of Coach. This man is about to be the most secretly soft, sassy grumpy man we’ve ever seen and I’m here for it🤣

After losing his leg in a car accident, Riley Mitchell no longer knows who he is anymore without hockey. Enter Lexi Armstrong, our independent, badass athletic trainer for the team who is there to help Riley through his rehabilitation and determined to not let Riley give up.

Moment of honesty? This book was perfect and just might have surpassed Face Off in being my favorite the series. Maverick and Emmy will always have a special place in my heart, but Riley and Lexi are transcendent. I have no words to how much I loved their story. 5% in to this book and I was already crying and knew that it was going to be an emotional rollercoaster. Then as I finished it and I put my kindle down, I cried out of happiness.

Chelsea really gave us a powerful story with Riley and Lexi. This is an absolute must read for me and don’t be surprised if I recommend it like a million times if you ask for a book rec.

Thank you so much to Chelsea and her team for the arc 💕

Oh Riley! We see snip bits of his personality throughout the first 3 books in the series but seeing who he was, his heart and watching that get smashed to bits and rearranged for his new normal was rough. Riley seems all sweet and innocent in previous books but like every character Chelsea writes, there are layers especially with his new reality. Obviously, he’s not the same guy he used to be. Lexi’s faith, patience, and nonsense approach with him during a time that he’s pushing everyone away in was miraculous. Throughout the first three books its been hinted at that he has a crush on Lexi but now we get to see their story unravel. We also get to learn more about Lexi’s guarded walls. Things she’s never discussed with the girls but she talks to Riley about it. I love the progression of Lexi and Riley’s relationship. Watching Lexi figure out how she felt for him 😭 was rough. But I loved the feel good story of Riley working his ass off for a comeback. We get to understand more about amputees, a general understanding on how they maybe feeling afterwards, more specifically an amputee who used to be an athlete. We get to learn more about the highs and low affects of the accident, we get to see brother/sisterhood rally around him. Alongside with the impact of people’s stares and words post amputation. I can’t wait to read coach saunders book next 🥰

Chelsea Curto continues to deliver with the DC stars series. With this book covering probably the most emotional sensitivity topic yet with limb loss by one of the MCs, she handled it with grace and care all while delivering the fun antics we’ve come to expect.

One of my favorite parts about this book was the development between Riley and Lexi. The way that Riley shows up for Lexi, supporting her and never asking her to be anything she isn’t and acknowledging the badass that she is. The way Lexi shows up to support Riley in the aftermath of the accident and his limb loss, supporting him in navigating a new normal.

But of course, we can’t forget about the rest of our boys and girls. An incredible display of found family and the importance of a village: being there for others through the good times and the not so good times.

This book is a wonderful reminder that life keeps going and we can always find something to make it a good day, especially with those we love and who love us.
