The title is misleading, but the book is eminently readable, useable and interesting. I love Martha's sense of humor and everyday language style. It's like having personal sessions with your favorite life coach!

Full of wisdom and lots of humor. Many good take-aways; a book I will read again.

So thankful I accidentally picked this up at the library.

Three things:
1. Take a risk everyday. (A "risk" is defined by each individual specifically).
2. Do nothing every day. For at least 15 minutes.
3. The questions she lays out regarding the stories we tell ourselves.

I adore Martha Beck. She's one of my favourite life coaching mentors. I thought I'd read every book she's ever written -- until I came across this one at my local library. I picked it up, thinking it was a traditional diet book. (Martha has written on food and body image before, in THE FOUR DAY WIN.) However, I was delighted -- and not altogether surprised -- to find that THE JOY DIET offers various "menu items" for living a happier, more fulfilling life.

As always, Beck approaches these topics with her unique blend of compassion, insight, and humour. It's a heady mix that speaks straight to my soul. I took countless notes, and I began applying the suggested exercises in my life immediately. I saw an improvement in my overall well-being and peace of mind right away. As always, Beck's books land in my lap just when I need them most.

Not a diet book, but a book on how to add more joy to your life. It had some good ideas and good reminders in it.

If you're in a rut, or simply want to jumpstart the path you're already on, this book can re-awaken your enthusiasm. I'm a long-time fan of Martha Beck's, and as in her other books, she offers encouragement and plenty of tips in this one. Well worth your time.
