A must-read to anyone wanting to understand how a business works. A ton of concepts summarized from industrial engineering, finance and psychology.

This book is a really good collection of insights and gathered knowledge of what businesses are and how to deal with the business part of your life. The short article structure of the book makes it easy to re-read a topic and also doesn't waste a lot of space with transitions, anecdotes etc. But it still is entertaining to read. The only issue I have with this book is that sometimes the author goes a little bit too much into the self-help department.

Really more of a 4.5 star book, but rounding up as I think this will be an excellent resource for many. Everything in here is essentially a capsule summary of a much larger topic, so you'll need to look elsewhere if you want to dig deeper. That said, Kaufman does an excellent job distilling many important topics and providing a map to help you navigate a lot of potentially overwhelming territory.

Whether you are interested in your own entrepreneurial endeavors or just want to better understand the business going on around you (which is largely my case), you could barely wish for a better guide.

I found this book rather boring as it did not have anything new to introduce. I also found that this book gave this false premise to the reader that an MBA could be "learned" without a degree, which is an idea that I appreciate very much if it was true. But we have to have a degree to "show" our competency in today's world, unfortunately.

This would probably be better as a reference guide or something to pull off your shelf when you need to remember a term. Otherwise it's just like copying terms and their definitions down like in college. I felt like a lot of the info in this book was really basic and stuff that was common sense. To be fair I have a marketing minor, but I felt like a lot of this information I knew before even attempting to go to college. Some of it's really important info, but the sections such as dealing with your own mind and working alone is more for productivity and less having anything to do with business.

I basically skipped a few chapters out of this and kind of skimmed pages at the end because it was getting really repetitive. Overall I took a few pages of notes that will probably be helpful, but as a replacement for a degree? I don't think so, this stuff is so basic.

The concept of training yourself and building your own MBA is one I've been practicing for years. This is a great all-in-one resource that, like Kaufman says, you'll want to keep around and refer to now and then.

A highly practical book written in very efficient, accessible language; and the indexes are extremely useful. I got it from the library but I want to purchase this one so I can keep it around!

It took me a very long time to finish this book, but it was worth it. The chapters are very short, but dense and thought-provoking. Easy to take in small chunks, but hard to sustain long reading sessions. I had to take a little bit every day. But the directness and clarity of the insights rewarded each return. I expect I will re-read large portions of this book over the years.

If I have one complaint, it's that depth appears to have been sacrificed for concision. But the book cites its sources, and so it has also given me a rather long follow-up reading list which I will use to dig deeper into things. I especially look forward to expounding on the early bits about how to understand business, and the later bits about how to understand systems.
