In the form of a mystery, this is a book about authorship and the possibility of a true language. I can't tell if it's actually great or merely aping greatness, but its definitely a bizarre and entertaining read.

This metafictional essay is delightfully thought-provoking. The story is less important than the idea, although the ideas are well-communicated because of the narrative. The basic gist of the book is experimentation in "breaking the 4th wall" to the extreme by involving the author as a character in the book, as well as blurring the lines between the characters themselves, who are all in fact different versions of the same person (or are they?). I really appreciated how many references to other literary works were in here as well, the story of how Don Quixote being particularly informing. Douglas Hofstadter would be proud of this one.
This is a mystery book in the sense that, it is a mystery as to what the book was all about. Perhaps the author didn't intend for the story to be resolved meaningful and introducing a character with the same name as his, didn't make things any clearer. This book is rife with "duality", in the sense that throughout the story there were a lot of instances of two different characters with the same name. One of the character laments that our language limits our understanding of the world and perhaps the author included these characters with the same name to highlight this flaw. Nevertheless, I enjoyed some of the interesting theories that the author included (Humpty Dumpty, Night and Day) and I feel this deserves a second read.
What was that supposed to mean? Guess I didn't quite get it, but I enjoyed reading the story. Paul Auster sure has a unique writing style.
Diga lo que diga no será objetivo porque me encanta como escribe Auster, pero el juego con los personajes y con las palabras ha sido genial.

"Baudelaire: Il me semble que je serais toujours bien là où je ne suis pas. In other words: It seems to me that I will always be happy in the place where I am not. Or, more bluntly: Wherever I am not is the place where I am myself. Or else, taking the bull by the horns: Anywhere out of the world."
