The first half of the book was okay but the story didn't really grab my attention until the mid-point. Summerset/Eve and Eve/Peabody are definitely my two favourite dynamics of the series.

This was a quick listen and overall I enjoyed it. TW: There were unexpected references to child abuse and rape, if I remember on page. Even though it’s a futuristic story, you can tell it was written in the 90s.

I enjoy the mystery aspect of Robb's writing, and the usually hot sex scenes are a bonus. This was a quick read and I look forward to continuing with her series.

Eve's best friend Mavis is set up for murder in this book. Eve has the hard task of having to arrest her friend knowing that Mavis is innocent. Now she just has to prove it? There is a new drug being developed that is highly addictive and is poisonous over a period of time. 3 bodies have all been found murdered and have the same new drug in there system. Eve believes that it is Jerry, Young and Redman that killed Pandora because she wanted the drug all to herself to sell but Eve's judgement isnt right in this case. She is trying to prove her friend Mavis didn't do it and in doing so misses the real killer who is closer to her than she thought.
Spoiler Alert
Castro is a lieutenant from the illegals division. He has himself put onto the case with Eve. He starts to get close to Peabody who makes a great alibi for him. He knew about the drug and was the one who got Pandora involved. She tells a few others about it which Castro doesn't like so he kills her and sets Mavis up for the fall. He thinks he can use his sex appeal to win over Dallas but when she isn't interested he moves to her aid Peabody. He was trying to get all the information about the case from her. He knows that Eve thinks that Jerry killed Pandora so he uses that knowledge and makes it look like Jerry overdoses in the mental hospital when in fact he kills her. With Jerry dead the cases are deemed closed but Eve still has this feeling that they aren't. Roarke agrees with her and it is only when Castro shows up at Eve's bachelor party that Eve pieces together everything. Castro manages to drug her but in the end Eve overpowers him and he is arrested.
This book is great but there is still one question that remains unanswered. Do Eve and Roarke get married?

The case in this one is a bit predictable (I suspected who the killer was as soon as the person gets introduced), but this book is all about the characters. So much character development for every single character takes place that the case felt a bit like a second thought most of the time. Not that I’m complaining. I loved every moment.
**Be warned that this volume delves deep into Eve’s abuse as a child and it does so in some detail. It’s not as bad as it could have been, but it’s a tad jarring and highly disturbing.**

Ok, mine is clearly an addiction so another book with Eve and Roarke and another good story, I'm so glad that there are still more or less 40 to read in front of me.
Ok, é chiaro che ora la mia é diventata una dipendenza da Eve e Roarke e dai gialli di J.D.Robb. Un'altra bella storia e il fatto che me ne aspettino ancora una quarantina mi riempie di gioia.

this book was a roller-coaster of emotions. JD Robb knows how to send you into tears, and then laughing, and then on the edge of seat. Amazing story by her, which is always to be expected.
