The MC was so sassy and it was awesome to see her kick ass as a human in a magic wielding world! I loved this adventure and can't wait to read the next in the series.

Totally fine urban fantasy novel, competently written; the heroine, however, is introduced to us when she responds to an obnoxious customer as she's waitressing by continually escalating the issue until she finally hits the woman in the face with the drink tray. We're informed that she's done this sort of thing at so many restaurants around town that she's unhireable. We're supposed to be sympathetic towards her but the number of times she physically assaults someone - in a later bartending job she throws a drink at someone who's annoying her - is just boggling. We're supposed to consider her Just Every Girl Struggling To Make Her Way? A ridiculous number of secondary characters are introduced including three hot dudes who don't date girls but all seem interested in Little Old Her.

I may continue with the series but I'm going to whine about it if I do.

Tory has been fired again for not being able to control her temper and she is finding that no one will hire her as word of her temper has gotten around. As she's trudging home a flyer hits her in the face with several job offers, one being for a bartender. She decides to try her luck and heads to the bar, when she gets there the woman in charge is in such a panic that she decides to give her a trial run during a meeting that night.
Tory doesn't even make it through the first hour before her temper snaps but oddly everyone just seems amused and by the end of the night she has a job, it's not until the next day that she learns she's surrounded by mythic's, and things get a bit crazy from there.
This is a pretty basic story but it was entertaining and I found the female MC's inability to control her temper and her refusal to take crap from anyone funny.

This is definitely a self published urban fantasy. A little rough around the edges, but with a fun core. Set in Toronto, the story posits there's a secret magical society living right alongside normal humans. The magical elements of society are organized into guilds which self govern their members. Tori, our main character, is a plain old human who knows nothing about magic. Unfortunately, she's terrible at keeping a jobs (due to problems with keeping her temper!), so shows up, desperate for a job, at a sketchy bar after finding an advertisement for a bartending gig on flyer. Despite her sass and penchant for throwing things on customers, the bar wants to hire her. The only problem is, the bar's a guild and should have never let her in in the first place.

Fast read, none of the other characters are as well drawn as Tori, but undeniably entertaining.

The first book in the series serves as an intriguing introduction. Although the plot takes its time to unfold, I found this deliberate pacing to be quite acceptable. What sets this urban fantasy tale apart is the fact that our heroine is a regular human, devoid of any magical abilities – a refreshing departure from the usual conventions. Tori, the central character, resonated with me deeply. She embodies a unique blend of strength, whimsy, unwavering determination, and a genuinely endearing sensitivity.

Then, we have the three mages, who are nothing short of extraordinary. Their presence ensures an unceasing whirlwind of excitement. Their rapid formation of friendship with Tori culminates in a captivating quartet.

This series embarks with strong potential, delivering a vibrant cast of characters and a meticulously constructed world. It effortlessly weaves together humor, action, captivating mages, and a fiercely independent heroine – what more could one ask for ?
