First I'd just like to say that the intro was pure gold. Talk about an attention grabber. From there it gets a little muddled. The world building was lacking and even confusing at times. Lots of questions remain in regards to that. I liked the characters but found that Lila was a bit on the obnoxious side.
The thing is is that I remember reading this book at one point but for some reason didn't have a review anywhere on it (Goodreads, Amazon, Storygraph) so when I started this I thought I was having a massive case of deja vu. Something else I remember is quiting the series halfway through because the books became boring and monotonous.
There are a lot of issues that don't add up like the rare plastic thing, is it earth or not?, whoever Merlin is, why is it dystopian?, even our MCs description changes throughout the book like the author forgot what she looked like.
There's a lot of potential here and I really enjoyed most of the story as silly as it could be. I think the concept is great but a little more thought needs to be done to execute it well.

Shapeshifters, Dragons, Mages, Jinn's, Witch's, Giants and did I mention Dragons? This book starts out with an action-packed scene and that action just continues throughout the book.
Zam is one strong lead character,(badass is the word I would use to describe her.) but then I have come to expect that from Shannon. The details in the scenes make you feel as if you are standing right there in the middle of it all. The suspense in this one is high. I literally could not put this one down, I just had to see what would happen next so the pages kept getting turned until I hit the end and I was left longing for the next book in this series. If you love action, dragons, suspense, and surprises this book is the one for you.

The tone of this book is more whiny and self pitying than I would expect from this author.  For me, it lacks her usual light-hearted touch.

“There were enough 'buts' in that little story to make a gay man giddy.

Suonerò io Rains of Castamere.
Come ti accolli figlia mia. Ma manda tutti a cagare e via, no!?

Boh.

Witch’s Reign is the fist book in the Desert Cursed series by Shannon Mayer. We are introduced to a verity of characters and an interesting world. There’s humor, adventure, and loads of action.

Zamira Reckless Wilson is a shifter who everyone thinks can’t shift, she’s cursed not with one, but two cures, her family is dead except one brother, and she doesn’t trust nor does she feel she fits in. First off, can I just say what a name for this character. It made me laugh and it fit her perfectly. Now as for her as a character. I liked her. She’s the under dog. No one wants her, no one sees how strong and capable she can be, they don’t believe in her, and her trust issues are valid. Ya, she does things that are reckless, but in the end they work out.

The side characters let me just say some I like and other’s not so much. We meet a verity of people and all have their own agendas.

The world is unique. We have a variety of shifters, creatures, Greek gods, magical people from Arthurian legend, and so much more… It’s a bit confusing at the beginning, but as we move along we get to learn more about this world and what is going on.

Witch’s Reign hooked me and I can’t wait to continue and find out what happens next with Zamira and the gang of misfits she acquires along the way. If you enjoy Urban Fantasy, a verity of myth’s, legends and creatures; then you should give this series a go.

Spoiler I absolutely loved this book from the first page! It starts out in the middle of action gripping your attention. On top of that the MC starts out snarky, crude and creative in her insults, making this read utterly hilarious. The author melded together a beautifully fantastic world, some crude comedy, and relatable characters in a way that was easy to read. I'm excited to read the rest of the series and deeply hope Lila comes back!
