A Final Girl is the last one standing in a horror movie, the one who survives when everyone else is dead. Quincy Carpenter was one. She barely made it out of Pine Cottage alive after her friends were slaughtered. 10 years later, she thought she had moved on, but when another Final Girl dies, Quincy is pulled right back into the nightmare she thought she escaped.
The twists were twisting in this one. The pacing had its moments. Once I hit the last quarter of the book, I flew through. If I'm being honest, I'm not totally sure I liked Quincy much. I'll need to come back and update this review becaus I’m still processing everything if I'm being honest.

This book was thoroughly OK. Easy to read, but I predicted about 80% of the plot twists. Perhaps some unique subversions of expected stereotypes, but they felt strangely uninspired. I didn’t find myself rooting for any of the characters, which may have been why things fell so flat. I do think Stephen King’s assessment of this being very similar to Gone Girl is right on track, so you’d like this book if you enjoyed that work.

Wow! In the running for my new favorite Sager, and this was his first. Every thrilling twist was brilliant. I saw NONE of it coming. This was a fun one to keep coming back to.

Yeah idk about this one Riley. Last quarter was fun, and I was eager to find out what happened at Pine Cottage despite guessing the outcome early on in the book. I think that’s a testament to Sager’s writing—he can keep me reading even when I don’t care too much for the characters and/or can figure out the twist(s). But the payoff of the ending wasn’t enough for me to justify the rest of an otherwise uneventful story. Maybe if this was my first Sager novel, I’d feel differently.
…although I do feel empowered to kick some ass if ever in a slasher film-esque situation. So thanks for that ig.

LOVED. This story was great. I didn't see the twist coming although afterwards it's like oh hey come on. I thought the main character and sub characters had a lot to offer and I was intrigued in following them. I also really like the way the Pine Cottage story is woven in with present day Quincy. It didn't feel like weird longing for the past but genuinely keep me wondering what was going on. I think I am becoming a Riley Sager fan girl! lol
