This book is really slow - so dang slow. I couldn’t do it.
This is one of the most poorly edited and formatted books I've ever read. The current Kindle version (10/10/17) available on Amazon is horrible! Not only is there an abundance of grammatical errors, a portion of the book looped THREE TIMES before continuing to the rest of the story. I seriously thought I was stuck in a time-warp! Basically they're at a party and things go wrong, we end up at the graveyard for the big climax, and then mid paragraph we're back at the party, then going to graveyard... and so on. Everything from around 82% to 98% was just a continuous loop.
Anyway, the premise of the book seemed interesting but the execution was terrible. The MC had some serious internalized misogyny issues that got on my nerves. It got tiring having to hear her go on and on about how it's better to have guy friends because girl friends are always catty and bitchy. None of the characters really appealed to me and their chemistry was lacklustre at best. It's a no for me.

I mostly enjoy this book. I like the characters, even if it’s more of a guilty pleasure type of liking- similar to admitting liking romance, or especially anything ‘cringe’. I’m not especially into YA/high school settings anymore, and there’s some minor niggling things that bug me, like the I’m not like other girls feel to her interactions, the implication that there’s a level of makeup that is the bare minimum (like no makeup doesn’t exist as an option, which especially doesn’t play well with the ‘not like other girls’ vibe), and a few expressions or variations of expressions that were popular in pop fiction for a while- they haven’t aged well, even if I have a kind of nostalgia for some of what I was consuming at the time. My first read through, before this series was completed and long before the next series (Adult Lexie) was started, pretty sure I would have rated it 4-4.5. Mostly it’s just a better read if you’re closer to the target demographic, and maybe don’t have so many memories of the use and then overuse of some of the tropes/expressions etc

Soooo I'm kind of shocked that I didn't like this book. All the reviews were so positive and YA fantasy is my go to.I didn't like this book so much I couldn't even finish it. There was way too many characters to really develop any of them enough . There was so many times Lexi (the main character) would say something and I would just find myself rolling my eyes.
I tried to stick it out and finish the book to maybe have a better review by the end, but I just couldn't do it. I usually never give bad reviews ,but i just wasn't a fan.

There are too many in depth descriptions of outfits and unpleasant characters for me. Potentially I am a little old to be the target market for this book. May be better for younger readers.
lmaao this book was so good when I listened to it in JUNE and I wanted to dive into book 2 right away.. but alas it's still sitting in my audible app unlisten(ed?) to. So, long story short - I SUCK.
Trying To Live With the Dead was a pretty entertaining book that I can sort of remember. Mostly because I am a sucky reader and never dove into the rest of the series (yet). I swear on my dog's life (yes only one of them because both of them would be too much swearing) that I will get through this series before the end of the year.
In it, you will meet Alexis. She sort of see's dead people and thinks that this one interesting fact will make her a loner for life. Yet, it does the exact opposite for her. She ends up finding a nice group of friends who are definitely intrigued by her. These guys end up supporting her because.. I honestly have no idea what else they were supposed to do? Run? Banish her? Kill her?
They obviously took the less messy way out but in the end, I think they all learned something about her unique power. Which in a way, brought them all closer together. It also doesn't hurt that it's a RH book because I was down for everything that was happening. Heck, I wanted a lot more to happen because NOTHING romantic happened at all. It was all friendly crap.. so I'm really hoping that the next book will give me something.
PLEASE?!?!

This series is one of my all-time favorite book series. Although the spelling and grammar could have been improved, I was able to look past that because I loved this book. The plot was engaging, and I empathized with the characters. B.L. Brunnemer is able to create a fantastic and compelling story! The characters are realistic and I immediately connected with them, and you cannot help yourself; you get wrapped up in the story.
I'm actually surprised by just how much I enjoyed this book and the world and characters the author created. I'm a fan of high school New Adult, but usually not those then tend more towards YA. I'm definitely used to RH high school with a slow burn, but I normally would have never thought I'd be so into a series like this. I was so drawn into it, that I really didn't want to put the book the down, despite starting it when I didn't have a dedicated chunk of time to give it. I ended up foregoing much needed sleep because I just had to see what would happen next.
I actually really enjoyed this book, but I do have some major issues with it. First of all, so much of this book seems to be a blatant rip off of CL Stone's Ghost Bird series that it made me not want to continue the series, despite the fact that there are some really good, interesting, and unique aspects to the book. The character Zeke is basically a carbon copy of North from the Ghost Bird series- black clothes, scary appearance, works as a mechanic, forces Lexie to eat "healthy", drives a motorcycle, and on and on. Second, the group seems to function almost exactly the same way as the Academy boys' group from GB, which I guess isn't a bad thing because those boys are such great guys and really care about each other, but I am definitely disappointed that the author seemed to get so many of her ideas directly from CL Stone. However, obvious rip offs aside, the writing is actually pretty good, pacing was well done for the most part, and the supernatural stuff was really fun. I also really like Lexie, even though she reminds me a lot of Kayli from CL Stone's other RH books, the Scarab Beetle series. I'm going to continue the series, but if I see anymore things taken directly from the GB or SB series, I'll have to give up on the rest of them.
