So, I wrote a review for this when I read it but accidentally deleted a whole bunch of reviews when I was reorganizing my shelves... So I guess I just have to read them all again so I can give accurate reviews :D

This continued to be an enjoyable re-read of the series that I loved as a kid. The 2nd book surprised me in how much of an improvement over the first book it was (gone were the scenes that read like D&D combat, and in were the scenes that dealt more with the characters and their emotions). Unfortunately the 3rd book did not have any surprises in it to make it seem better than the 2nd, and so it felt worse (which is probably unfair). I enjoyed it, but I can't recommend it to a new adult reader.

Characters die or stop in the story not because they needed to at that point, but because the authors had no use for them in the next section so they made some flimsy excuse not to have them continue on (with the requisite parting of ways scene).

The conclusion of the first trilogy of the Dragonlance Chronicles was fun. Rereading this for the first time since adolescence, I lost some of the sheen. In places, this book shines; in others it is held up by some weak mechanics. I should say all of this and reiterate that I am still in love with these characters. The authors work here was trailblazing for the genre and the brand. If you have never read this trilogy and you are at all interested in fantasy as it progressed from classic to modern, this is important work.

At this point I was just going through the motions because I have a hard time putting down books unfinished, and for some reason I had the entire season on my kindle and some free time on my hand. The end is sufficiently "closed" that I've decided not to proceed to book four though, using the time for more interesting reading.

In general, the book feels very normative, very expected. I may simply not be the target audience with the amount of books I read and my pnechant for no-normative and queer fantasy where not everything revolves strictly around the duality of male and female.

This is going to be more of a review about this trilogy as a whole (excluding summer flame) I'm also just gonna put bullet points of things I liked because I am a bad reviewer.
Tasslehoff surprised me it is nice to see a comic relief character have a bit more to them
The second book was a slog but this one made up for it
I don't really like how Kitiara was written, I wish she was more of a "villain" we could feel sympathetic for, it was touched on a little bit but not as much as I would have liked.
I liked how there were not really any (main) characters I hated,
I like how Rastalin was written he was a bad guy but not really? mixed morality is hard to find in early-ish fantasy books like this

A fitting and satisfactory end to this trilogy. (Pretend Summer Flame doesn't exist.) While grown-up me realizes there's some major flaws to the writing, it was really refreshing and soothing to spend time and relive these adventures with my old friends.

One of my most favorite series... when I was 12. Not something I would recommend to an adult. Fond memories, though.

This was a lot better than the previous two books in the series. Finally, the story starts to deviate from the standard fantasy worldbuilding and starts to find some identity of its own. In the process, some of the characters actually start to feel like people.

I very much wish that Kitiara's evilness wasn't so frequently signposted by her being promiscuous, but in general this is a marked improvement on what came before
