I was so excited about this book but was honestly disappointed. It was a solid book but did not compare to the first two books in the series for me. I felt like most of the exciting surprises were used up in the other books and this one just had to tie up the loose ends. Still loved the series but I had hoped for more.

This book was pretty good. I didn't like that the were switching between perspectives of Jun Bei and Catrina. The suspense they put at the end of each chapter was a little much. I really didn't like how Jun Bei had to kill Mato and Ruse wasn't even thankful.

Mato was a little crazy but he really cared for Jun Bei. I think that she probably fell in love with him before she wiped her mind for the first time. She probably wasn't used to the feeling and was scared. But she wiped it anyhow and Mato still missed her.

But what's really funny is that I though that Mato was like her father.... But it turns out he was her first love....
Oh well.

A fun ride, loved this series. My one complaint is twofold. So much happens this book could easily have been longer, and I wish the side characters got more focus

The sci-fi aspects were hard to follow at some point but the story was a fun ride. I will re-read at some point to really take in all aspects of the story.

So, when I first read This Mortal Coil ages ago, I loved it! It was a unique book, totally not something I normally would read mainly because I’m not really a fan of post apocalyptic books. However, this one was different with all the hackers and coders and I found it fascinating!

This series is about this girl named Catarina who basically finds out her entire life has been a lie and decides to take matters into her own hands, along with the help of others, to do everything they can to destroy a quickly spreading and mutating virus.

There’s a lot of hacking and coding, that I’m not familiar with, but I was fascinated with how some (gene-hackers) hacked how their bodies were built and would change the way they looked. It was very interesting.

From the beginning, I loved Catarina! She is one tough cookie and never let anything get her down, and she went through A LOT! I never got frustrated or annoyed with her and I always appreciate when the main character is relatable, even if she is a coder and is super smart, unlike me

This is was a perfect finale! I honestly did not know what to expect coming into this book given the cliffhanger left behind by the sequel, but it did not disappoint! I didn't think there could be more twists offered for this series, but I was wrong! It was so exciting and filled with action and drama, all of which I loved.

It was great to see new characters and old, and Jun Bei had an excellent story arc that was unlike most I've read. Hers, inevitably twined with Catarina's, led for compelling storylines. Further unique world building and science were added to the stories, and I would have loved to see more of the side characters!

I actually found Agnes and Lachlan's final arcs to be quite different from what I expected. They were surprisingly understandable and almost tragic. This entire series had great messages and themes, and I found the resolution to be satisfying. I can hardly remember a book that threw so many curveballs at me, but it was quite satisfying and I would love to see more!

A must read for any sci fi or science lovers, and those who enjoy complex choices and high stakes!

All of the secrets are finally revealed. Everything came together and the characters got the endings they deserved. I expected more side characters to die, but the lack of death was pleasantly surprising. Jun Bei's character development/arc was compelling and believable and picked up where her backstory from before the event of the trilogy occurred. Catarina's character arc was also very satisfying. Cole, Anna, Ziana, and Leoben were a little too passive in my opinion, but everything worked out well for them. All in all, this was a great way to end the series.

This series won’t be for everybody for a myriad of reasons, but it’s so extremely what I like that I love it immensely.

“How does it feel to have your life toyed with? To have someone use your pain as a tool?”

Overall this story is a great depiction of anger and fear and how the desire for revenge can cloud judgement in several different ways. Jun Bei and Cat are both really fantastic protagonists because they aren’t infallible - they make mistakes, they make rash decisions, and they suffer the consequences as they come. But they still come out at the end changing in ways for the better and I enjoy that style of character writing.

I’ve said this in every review, but wow this series reads like a fast paced, adrenaline fueled TV show. Emily Suvada writes endless surprise reveals and twists that left me reeling every single time. I got so sucked in, the desire to see what would happen next is just that strong!

I also still enjoyed all the futuristic elements in this series (gentech, cloning, coding, etc.) and weirdly enjoyed reading about a pandemic that’s so much worse than our current one that I could lose myself in unravelling the mystery of. Suvada crafted a very believable world ravaged by both such a terrifying virus and also boosted by such intriguing technology. It got me thinking about potential similar ideas we may see in our own future, which I think is the goal of most scifi novels.

There’s many elements to this series that make me love it so much and I’m definitely coming back for a reread at some point! ✨
