3,5 Sterne.
Ich wollte das Buch so sehr mögen und ich wollte es unbedingt gut bewerten. Schon ab den ersten Drittel habe ich an die fünf Sterne gezweifelt, aber am Ende musste ich es einfach mit drei Sternen bewerten.
Ich meine, ich liebe die eigentliche Geschichte, die auch so bleiben könnte. Ich mag die Charaktere und auch besonders die Protagonisten Karou und Akiva. Schon beim zweiten Band fand ich von den vielen Sichten, das sie mehr in den Hintergrund verschwanden und leider war das in diesem Band schlimmer. Ich brauchte die super vielen Sichten nicht, die teils echt unnötig waren. Ich bin ehrlich, Karou und Akiva sind einer meiner Lieblingspaare von allen Büchern, aber mich nervt es schon, dass die kaum zusammen sind. Zum Glück, waren sie in diesem Band mehr zusammen als im zweiten Band, aber es war doch recht wenig. Man hatte sie wirklich nie als wirkliches Liebespaar erlebt und das hätte ich mir echt gewünscht.
Und jetzt kommt das was mich am meisten gestört hat. Der neue Charakter Eliza und die Offenbarung von den Stelianern. Eliza wurde in den anderen Büchern nie erwähnt und die Stelianer kannte man auch nicht wirklich. Ich bin nicht so ein Fan davon, wenn große Sachen erst am Ende erwähnt werden. Gerade bei Trilogien. Über das ganze Buch habe ich mich gefragt, warum es Eliza nun gibt und was so besonders an ihr sein soll. Und es hat sich einfach so gezogen und ich fand die Abschnitte mit Eliza so langweilig. Und dann kam die große Offenbarung am Ende, und somit wirkten die ersten zwei Bände unbedeutend und auch etwas sinnlos. Warum habe ich die Bände gelesen, wenn es von der Story her eigentlich nicht wichtig war? Ab Mitte des Buches konnte ich auch erahnen, wie das Buch und die gesamte Geschichte endet.
Ich finde man könnte den Abschnitt von Eliza und co. einfach rausnehmen. Dann hätten wir das Buch etwa auf 500 Seiten gekürzt und es hätte ein wirklich gutes Ende gehabt. Ehrlich, wenn dieser Abschnitt nicht da wäre, hätte ich das Buch vielleicht fünf Sterne gegeben. Das ist wirklich das Schlimmste, was mich stört. Oder es hätte so wie am Anfang von diesem Band weiter in Hintergrund bleiben können. Wenn es nicht das Ende beeinträchtigt hätte, hätte ich es noch vier Sterne gegeben.
Wie gesagt, ich finde es einfach so schade, weil ich sonst alle anderen Charaktere echt mag und die sind mir wirklich ans Herz gewachsen. Die eigentliche Story fand ich auch cool und die hätte mir sowas von gereicht. Manchmal ist weniger auch mehr.
Und dann noch eine Kleinigkeit. Das Buch gibt mir tatsächlich eine Karte von Eretz - Die High-Fantasy-Welt. Die war auch schon im zweiten Band. Ich frage mich nur, wieso? Ich erwarte bei einen Fantasy-Buch nicht, wenn er High-Fantasy und Urban-Fantasy vermischt, dass das World Building erste Sahne ist. Aber die war hier echt nicht gegeben. Ich denke, dass Laini Taylor das durchaus gekonnt hätte, aber das hatte sie einfach total vernachlässigt. Wir waren nur bei ein paar feste Stellen von der Karte und haben uns nicht wirklich bewegt. Wir haben die Welt nie wirklich erkundet. Was ich schon schade finde, aber ich habe es tatsächlich auch nur erwartet, wegen der Karte. Entweder sollte man die unnötige Karte weglassen, die falsche Versprechungen gibt oder man hätte sich dann mehr an die Karte orientieren können. So, dass der Leser jedenfalls mal an jeder Stelle war.
Fazit: Ich hatte mich einfach so auf das Buch gefreut und wurde dann doch etwas enttäuscht. Hier hätte Laini Taylor sich das Motto "Weniger ist mehr" zum Herzen nehmen sollen. Es war dann doch etwas übertrieben und wertet für mich auch die anderen Bücher ab. Ich liebe wohl immer noch den ersten Band und das ist auch mein Lieblingsband der Trilogie.

Offenes Ende. Es war einfach zu viel. Das passte nicht mehr im Buch hinein. Gerade, wenn die Offenbarung für die Protagonisten erst 100 Seiten vor das Ende passiert. I could've finished this within a week, if not for the fact that I got into another reading slump....
I had a lot of fun with the whimsical, magical vibes in this series. For me, though, this whole trilogy was sadly unable to reach the greatness that was Strange the Dreamer . Even though this last book managed to improve upon things, (mainly the writing and the focus of the story on different aspects than the last ones) it still didn't "do" it for me. Maybe it's because of the mood I'm in currently, maybe it's the fact that the story tried to do so many different things, I don't know.
The start of this book was great, it was so different than I'd gotten used to from Laini Taylor, and it set my expectations for this last book quite high. The pacing still felt a little bit off, but I was prepared to deal with a shift in that, because the story had to be tied up at the end, right?
Regrettably, the ending and everything leading up to it had so many disjointed and random moments for me, that it took me out of the story multiple times. New characters and parts of the world got introduced at a time that felt very unlogical to me, and that made me feel like the author also didn't really know what to do with the ending. It was like she put three different endings in one.
All in all, I feel quite confused as to how to feel about this book. On one hand, I feel like I'm being too critical for what this series is, on the other hand I feel like this series just wasn't for me (although it should've had everything I like!).

Wow.
This book surpassed the first two in the trilogy. The writer and the characters have matured. The adolescent will-theys have developed more nuance, and the characters' inner thoughts grew in complexity even as the world around them expanded - with less force than the Big Bang, but no less brilliantly.
I love what the author did to the setting, and I love the journey she took us on. I loved the moments of laughter that interspersed the serious, world-changing events throughout the book. Every character was given a chance - or three - to shine in ways that made me love them more. They became real to me, regardless of their physical form.

A spectacular ending to the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy that I regret not finishing sooner. This would have been a 5* read for me however I wish it was two books instead of one! The story was perfect but I wish the final act, which comprised about 100 pages, could have been fully fleshed out better.

I LOVED this series. The characters were lovable. I especially loved "neek neek." :]
The ending left me wanting more. I really hope she doesn't plan to leave us with that crazy cliffhanger. I'd read many more of these.

Taylor has always been a masterful storyteller. I absolutely love her work and Dreams of Gods and Monsters is absolutely perfect.
It is the most beautiful conclusion to a trilogy (aside from ACOWAR) that I have ever read.
But I hunger for more. I want more! How fairs the excavation of Loramendi? Does Akiva finally learn to control sirithar? How do Scarab and the “godstars” fair against the Nithilam? What happens with Esther and Razgut? How’s Jael doing? DO LIRAZ AND ZIRI GET TOGETHER?!
So many unanswered questions! (I want another trilogy lol)
