It was sweet, sexy, touching, very swoony and incredibly romantic. This book was loosely based on the story of Camelot, but has been updated in the best way. It's a contemporary fairy tale with a moody, brooding, deeply protective modern-day bad-boy knight who falls utterly in love with a down-on-her-luck damsel in distress who he rescues. I enjoyed reading so much it was over before I knew it. It was a very sweet, sexy, swoony quick read that I highly recommend checking out.

Beautiful

Definitely a sweet story. Long winded at times and a bit innocent but the message behind it is beyond beautiful.

I get being afraid of something you don't understand but lashing out a person for it? Totally unacceptable. There are plenty of 'normal' people I meet on a regular basis that I may not like - so I just avoid them. I don't lash out at them. It saddens me to think people attack those with special needs. Do we really need to be threatened by someone with a big beautiful smile and positivity and a gentle innocence?

This was a sweet book with a beautiful message - thank you for writing it.

my 5 star review!!

I love Katy Regnery, and not just the fairy tale series- all of her books have been fabulous. She tells beautiful stories that make you feel happy inside. while there is angst, yes- all good stories have them, i always know i can count on her for a happily ever after- especially in her fairy tale series.

Dark Sexy Knight has been my favorite in the series, up there with Never Let You go, which was my number one. I loved the storyline, the characters- every single thing about it.

Colton Lane is a dinner theater knight- he is out recruiting at a job fair when his eyes are drawn to Verity Gwynn and her brother lumbering around trying to find a job. Verity HAS to find a job, it is a matter of life and death- she needs to be able to support her and her brother, who is special needs. I loved Ryan- he was a fabulous character and the way Katy portrayed him was fantastic.

After getting to know each other, Colt and Verity have a very strong bond- but Colt does have some secrets that will either tear them apart or draw them closer together.

Katy has such a powerful way with words, i absolutely loved this book. And everything in it.
my favorite quote-
“Give me your doubts and disquiet. I will silence them.”
I love that so hard!!
Get this book, you won't be disappointed!

Oh my heart!! There aren't enough words to describe how much I love this story. First, I have to say I love Katy's modern-day fairytale series. No one can put a modern spin on a familiar fairytale like Katy. The characters and the storyline are all familiar but given that special "Katy" twist. It's like being reintroduced to a friend you haven't seen in years. These stories are written with so much heart you can't help but experience every scene that is set and feel every emotion that a character feels.

Dark Sexy Knight is no different. This is loosely inspired by The Legend of Camelot. Colton and Verity meet at a job fair. Verity is there to try and get her special-needs brother, Ryan jobs. After losing everything, this is a do or die situation for both of them. Colton, who is there to help recruit people to apply for jobs at The Legend of Camelot the medieval dinner theater where he plays the Viking Knight, spots Verity and her brother. Colton is a man with a lot on his plate who is just trying to keep his nose clean. But despite his own best interests, he is drawn to Verity and her brother. He feels a distinct need to help them. Verity, who is down on her luck, is grateful for the helping hand Colton offers. First in the form of a job and then in shelter, care and protection.

While Colton offers solutions to Verity's every day needs, she provides to Colton emotionally. He is a man with a dark past and she chooses to overlook all of that to see the man that lies beneath the dark rumors and harsh exterior. She becomes the salve to his emotional turmoil.

Along the way, they recognize that their hearts recognize each other before they ever met. When things take off between them, we get to see Colton's very swoon-worthy romantic side. He takes care of Verity's cautious heart with the loving care it deserves and she does the same for him.

This is not only a beautiful love story but it's also a beautiful story about family. The emotions that go along with caring for a person with special-needs and the cruelty that they experience. While this story was great for all the reasons I previously mentioned, the Epilogue and the note Katy writes to her readers had me saying "Oh my heart".

4.5 stars for this sweet, romantic story.

“Dark Sexy Knight” follows the story of Verity and Colton. Verity is the sole provider and caretaker of her brother Ryan, who is a mentally disabled adult. They are struggling to live as their only source of income has been destroyed due to circumstances beyond their control. When they are attending a job fair, they come across Colton, the dark, sexy knight. He is able to procure a job for both of them, which sets them on their path towards a relationship.

Verity is the younger sister to Ryan but is the sole provider and caretaker of her brother. She is struggling to make ends meet and to hold down a job for various reasons, and she generally considers herself to be unlucky and often unwanted. Due to these circumstances, she leans on the help that Colton is willing to provide at the beginning of the book. Verity is a very sweet character, and she is trying her best. The only time she is unkind is when she is provoked by Artie or her brother is being mistreated. She is truly a gentle character who deserves a happy ending. Colton, on the other hand, is gruff and generally apathetic towards most people, but he is drawn to Verity and her brother, feeling compelled to help them. Through his help and the similarities between their siblings, their relationship begins to bloom. Even though he is willing to assist them, there is a underlying danger to him tIMG_1728hat is portrayed with his inner-dialogue versus being actually dangerous. While his darkness is violent, I just didn’t care about it. Whenever his anger surfaces, it is in defense of someone he loves. Because of this, I didn’t buy into the fact that he is really as dark and sinister as he seems to think that he is. Don’t get me wrong, his episodes are violent and scary, but provoked, so I felt like his behavior is justified. There is also another scene where he has a physical sexual reaction to someone other Verity, which could upset some readers, but he is disgusted with himself because of the reaction. His reaction to his attraction to someone else makes me okay with the scene. At the end of the day, he is another damaged hero who is honorable, so, even though he has made mistakes, I want him to have his happy ending with Verity.

What I loved most about the two of them is that their romance is sweet and mirrors a more realistic relationship. They recognize the need to be responsible before jumping into their relationship as a bad break-up could be disastrous for not only them but also their siblings. Additionally, they are open with each other, and, even when they keep details of their lives from each other, it is a logical reason, and they share the news as soon as possible. There are also no crazy reactions by either character when the unknown information is revealed. These people form a family together, one of love, loyalty, and support. There is one instance of stupid thinking in the heat of the moment, but I was able to overlook it as they, at this point in the story, have fully committed to each other, and the result of the poor choice plays out in the resolution of the plot.

The other two characters that I liked are Mel and Ryan. These characters are sweet, and the abuse they receive fully conveys the discrimination that mentally disabled people still endure, even today. I also enjoyed that they received their happy ending as well, although I was thrown by the siblings of siblings connection. I generally don’t like this in stories, so I didn’t love this aspect of the story. Overall, these characters were fantastic additions to the story, and they are really the impetus to specific plot developments that need to occur.

“Dark Sexy Knight” is another great addition to the “A Modern Fairytale” series. Her writing is sophisticated and sheds light on real-world problems. I truly enjoyed reading this story and can’t wait for the next installment.

The story was a great read, but the narration left a lot to be desired. The narrator took away from my complete enjoyment of this novel. However, if you plan to read the e-book or paperback, you'll be more satisfied.

Upon first look I was not impressed. Colt's sarcasm was off putting and aggravating. Verity was too naive and trusting. That did not bode well in my opinion. However, as I started to delve deeper I started to get what the author was doing. Ms. Regnery was building up to the meat of the story and boy was it hearty. Verity's doe eyed innocence started to grow on me when it became obvious how devoted she was to her brother's well-being. Often at the expense of her own. Colt was an array of contradictions. It was hard to predict his actions from one moment to the next. What it boiled down to is that he was a lost soul with a good heart and hid it all behind an acidic personality. The seriousness of the story was balanced out by the absurdity of the references to Camelot (dinner theater). Had I known how it all would end, I would have never doubted the direction of the story. Beauty can come from darkness. Not your average love story but it awed me and humbled me in so many ways.

Note: This ARC was provided by Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

Twenty-eight-year-old Colton Lane isn't one to really become involved in the affairs of other people, all the more when they're strangers. But something about twenty-four-year-old Verity Gwynn had him taking notice from the moment his eyes spied her from across the room. She wasn't a drop dead gorgeous scene stealer and having never spoken to her before, it wasn't her witty conversation that he found appealing. He surprises even himself when he engages with her, and when he learns that she's in a desperate search for a job for herself and her older brother, Ryan, with special needs, he comes to her rescue and recommends them to the head of human resources at the dinner theater where he's held the role of Viking Knight for more than four years. He isn't sure, however, how to handle Verity looking at him as if he truly was some sort of knight in shining armor. Whatever armor he may is anything but shiny, tarnished being a far more realistic description for it. But he can't seem to stop himself from constantly saving the day when it comes to Verity. The more time they're in each other's company, the more they become tethered to one another, and while tying themselves to Colt was never part of her plan, there's no denying how she and Ryan wouldn't choose to be anywhere else. Time waits for no one, and neither does it wait for what may be the right time to fall in love, but will Verity still want to be with Colt when all his dark secrets are revealed?

Gah! This book. I mean, seriously! I was reading it and there was no denying that I was enjoying myself immensely during the first few chapters of the book, but then out of the blue, it felt as if I had been lifted up by this quiet wind that was swirling around me this whole time and I found myself in this tale of love, family, fate, absolution, and redemption being shared by two main characters who so need a bit more happiness and sunshine than what they've been getting lately. Yes, Verity loves her brother and he loves her without question, but her life has been about Ryan for so long that you want her to be able to have that someone she can share the rest of her life with, even though it's irrefutable that she would gladly do it all again for him. Then there's Colt, who undeniably loves his cousin and would do anything for her, but the burden of responsibility he's put on himself has cost him in more ways than one, and my heart squeezes for him because it's clear he wouldn't have it any other way. They may appear to be an odd couple, but Colt and Verity were absolutely perfect for each other. That doesn't mean, of course, that it was all smooth sailing for them, and it's through all those rough patches that they realize that they are strong together and that sometimes, one has to be stronger for the both of them. I should never have doubted Katy Regnery and the hold a modern fairytale has over me. Five-plus stars for Dark Sexy Knight. ♥
