Amé, profunda y completamente. Clarie, Jamie, Brianna y Roger, admito que al principio no me convencía la historia de los dos últimos, pero en este libro descubrí que la autora sólo hizo una maravilla al incluirles! Ahora al siguiente libro

First, I will start by saying that this book was leaps and bounds ahead of The Fiery Cross. After sludging my way through that one, I was both hopeful and secretly dreading reading this one. The best thing that set it apart was that there was ACTUALLY a plot! Several of them, in fact! This reminded me of the Outlander that I fell in love with. It made me EXCITED to read the next one. Also, THANK GOD there were only a few mentions of breasts and breastfeeding. I may have thrown the book across the room if I had been subjected to Brianna's aching boobs for 1000 pages again. I would put this book around 3.5 stars.

This was the lengthiest Outlander book yet. Somehow I finished it over the weekend and of course, my love for Diana Gabaldon's breathtaking series was only reinforced by this most recent installment. Now I'm dreading reading the next book, the only one left to devour before beginning an agonizing wait for the final chapter. I will miss the characters so, so much - after thousands of pages of learning about their ficticious lives, I can't help but feel attached to them.

And that, in a nutshell, is why I have always and will always love and treasure books. Especially good books. Their unique ability to take you out of your world, introduce you to people, places, ideas and change your perspective on just about anything in a way that just can't be replicated by any other medium. No visual or audio format can duplicate what can be created in the limitless boundaries of your mind.

This series reminds me of that constantly - that while I might never see the lush, rolling hills of Scotland and most certainly will never experience the American Revolution firsthand - with the aid of these intricately detailed books, it's startlingly easy to be transported there, if even for a few hours. In "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" Ms. Gabaldon sticks to her usual tricks - carefully selected verbage flowing in majestic, unflinching prose on each and every page; a heroic love story, unapologetic of its needs and desires, and best of all, absent any tiresome monotony; a flurry of ceaseless activity and explosive drama, intermingled effortlessly with the day to day routines that make the characters feel like family - I could go on and on. Sure, if pressed I could find things to criticize about this book (and the others). But its merits far outweigh any of its flaws (seriously, the sheer stamina it must take to produce these enormous novels is astonishing in itself), which for me, makes the long, ever-winding story worth reading.

I am going to miss this series so much when it's done

First read Aug 2010
Re-read May 2014

I got the paperback version which is over 1500 pages long and holy fishsticks IT IS LONG. Only for hardcore outlander fans. ((That ending tho))

It took me 3 years to pick this book up after having completed the previous book in the series. The sheer size of it was totally overwhelming. But as soon as I dove back into the story, I remembered why I love this series. My only negative is that the book really started to drag for me in the last 100-150 pages. At this point in the series, you really know what you're getting when you pick up one of Gabaldon's book. This time I won't wait so long to pick up the next book.

I have arrived at and finished probably my favorite Outlander book to date. A Breath of Snow and Ashes is like a high speed car chase from start to finish. Unlike The Fiery Cross, where it takes a while to find its footing, this story straps you in right away and there is so much that happens. Diana Gabaldon really makes sure she gives every character a moment to shine, take the spotlight. That is true even for the side characters that are introduced in this epic installment.

My thoughts and feelings have not changed, if anything I think I love this book even more on a reread. It really is Diana Gabaldon at her best. Well, my amazing journey through this series again will continue now in book seven!

I did it y'all. I finally finished this thing after two previous attempts, motivated by hunger for more story after rewatching Season 5 of the show. Which I actually didn't get much of, because a great many of the key events in this book happen in Season 5. And even though it was a massive book and a lot of it seemed honestly pointless, I'm giving it 4 begrudged stars because Gabaldon is a truly good writer, if a bit obsessed with the minutiae of her characters' lives.

Oh my goodness this was so good! I can't wait to read the rest of the series

I won't lie, after book 5, I was nervous about reading this book. But to my utter surprise and delight, it was nonstop action. I didn't want to stop reading.

As always, I love Claire. She is such a great character, and I love seeing how she attempts to apply her modern medical knowledge to the past. I also liked seeing how Brianna did the same with her engineering skills.

Roger, who I couldn't stand in Fiery Cross, had a great character arc in the book that I appreciated.

Also, that ending?! What?! I did NOT see that coming.

I do think this book could have been a smidgen shorter. I also think the author could take a bit more care when it comes to discussing race, which has been a consistent issue for me.
