I read these books when I was in fourth grade and was pleasantly surprised to rediscover them! They are every bit as enjoyable as they were back then.

Trixie is that 13 year old teenager who finds every single thing suspicious or it's just written in a way that even the compliments sounded like "there's something crazy going on with the other person".
And because of that reason alone, each chapter had some ridiculous twist. This book literally went from buying a horse and learning how to ride it To
1) Suspecting there's ghost next door
2) Finding out there's not a ghost
3) getting attacked by a mad dog who has rabies
4) Her little brother getting Bitten by a poisonous snake
5) rescuing her brother
6) boat crash
7) Bike crash
8) there might be secret treasure somewhere
9) My new rich friend doesn't have a perfect family like me. So i am gonna mention it every single time...
10) We need to hide Jim from everyone
11) Jim is so nice, but why is he not talking to me
12) We need to find jim
13) we also need to find treasure

So basically the old man living in the nearby mansion is dying because of pneumonia and they want to find out the hidden treasure before he dies. There's a kid living in his house who happens to be this old man's nephew. After his uncle dies all the money and the mansion will automatically transfer to the kid. But his Step- dad is after the money.

Now, there will be a question like; Why did you even read a children's book? There's no way you are gonna find a great mystery! You aren't in the targeted demographic for this.

Well thats true! But for a book that has characters/plot centred around getting money without even working for it shouldn't even be for kids.

It can only be a five star book. Great memories. This is the cover styling I remember.

I haven’t read this book since I was a child, and it was great to re-read it! It was interesting to see how Trixie, Honey, and Jim all first met as well. I didn’t remember how young they were because they seemed so old when I was a kid myself.

The major con of this book - in the first few chapters there is a scene where Trixie and an actual doctor discuss how to properly care for a venomous snake bite, and they both agree that the only way to do it is using a tourniquet and sucking the venom out. This was one of the first series I read on my own as a child and so I’ve always thought this? This time, I was depicting the scene to my husband and best friend, a soldier and a Boy Scout, and they were both horrified that anyone would think that today. The book is from the 1940s originally, so it makes sense that they thought such a think back then, but I wish it could be edited somehow so that more children don’t think that’s legitimate first aid advice.

I look forward to eventually re-reading the rest of the series! This was one of my grandmother’s favorites, and even though she’s no longer with us, it’s so nice to have something in common with her still.

This was my very favorite series growing up - next to Little House of course.

So much fun. Suddenly reminded of how desperately my eight year old self wanted to BE Trixie Belden.

What a fun read! The character development through the story is amazing. The story follows Trixie Belden, who's brave and sometimes brash nature gets her into trouble. She meets Honey who is a sweet and timid neighbor. They bond over their love of horses and as they spend more time together they inspire one another to fix their flaws.

Secret of the Mansion is a great story line. It starts off with a grumpy old neighbor who becomes deathly ill and is taken to the hospital. Which gives the opportunity for Trixie to snoop around the now abandon mansion. Trixie's curiosity at the mansion snowballs into a series of events.

I also love how the story talks about different family situations that each character is in and it puts things into perspective for Trixie to fully appreciate her family.

When I was in junior high my friend and I borrowed these books from our friend's mom. Trixie was so fun and relatable. She made mistakes, she had many interests, and goals; she just felt so human.

Re-reading these books as an adult doesn't take away the fun. It is easier to see how outdated the language is, how absurd the plot is, and how poor the foreshadowing is. But none of this takes away the fun. Generationally we live worlds apart, but how can you not relate to a story about friendship. Trixie Belden is always fun to revisit! I recommend this if you are looking for something episodic and fast.
