Once again, the book was so long. But Dean Koontz does thriller sooooo well with an A+. His imagery and description make you feel like you're in the book. I really liked the personal realtionships developed in this book, however I was annoyed no one was taking Hiliary seriously at the beginning. But I had no idea the ending would turn out as it did. I did see the twin plot twist coming though. Also Frank dying was really random to me.

It was an okay read. Definitely could've been shorter, and the twists I could see from a mile away (that's not always a bad thing if it's still enjoyable). Felt a little corny and cliché-y at times and had lots of tell, not show moments (literally - the characters would say things to explain the plot instead of just showing the progression of events). I think I could've connected more with the characters if it wasn't all told, and instead shown, and if there hadn't been other characters literally saying "I feel so bad for them." I don't like feeling like I'm supposed to feel a certain way about a character, I'd rather connect with them in my own way, if that makes sense. Either way it was an interesting read and the last hundred pages were very fun and a little more fast-paced.

The vibes were off, so I hit the bricks.

I know I read this book, but like many of the Koontz books I read it was more than a decade ago. I can't recall anything about this book. Not even how much I liked it.
The only reason I gave this book 2 stars was because the last 100 or so pages (out of 451) were really good. Other than that, one of the most boring books I've read in a LONG time.

I haven't read this book in at least 10 or 15 years. Maybe more. There's a line from one of the characters about how it feels wrong to feel sympathy for the bad guys. That was my main issue. What the main antagonist did was absolutely abhorrent and I do not want to feel sorry for him. I really wish I didn't. But that's a sign of a good book, when the author can take a villain and make you see things, even just a little, from their point of view. Now I have to go pick out something light and fluffy to read.

This book was well built. Solid, square blocks of plot stacked upon each other to make a satisfying and workable, if utilitarian, novel. It wears its Influences - specifically Psycho and the pop psych of the seventies - on its sleeve but that's okay. It's overlong, which surprised me because other Koontz books I've read have been fast-paced pageturners, but it was very readable.
