I normally like Karin Slaughter books, but this one didn't hit the mark. It was disturbing at points with themes of SA, torture, and murder. Essentially, a family has been torn apart after one of their daughters goes missing and is presumed to be dead. Years later, the remaining sisters are estranged and haven't spoken in years. They find themselves needing each other's support after one of their husband dies and then the police start asking questions.

Net net is:
Spoiler Both sisters end up being abused by the same man who's been obsessed with their family for years. I found it too graphic when the author went into detail about the ways they were abused, tortured, etc.

I would happily give this novel 5 stars, it was entertaining, and grabbed you from the beginning, but it has a huge plot whole that I just can’t get past.
Why the heck would Paul fake his death, have everything in his life planned out including the fake death, but leave all of that evidence for his wife to find? Because he thought she’d never look? Why would a grieving wife not look through your things either to remember you or to simply get your affairs in order? He’s an idiot. Plan your death and get rid of the evidence; move the computer, hide the hard drive. The book is great, but the whole premise, the driving force of the book makes so sense, which ruins a great read.

Pretty Girls is one hell of a thriller! Right from the start, I was completely hooked by the mystery of Julia Carroll’s disappearance. Karin Slaughter really knows how to create characters that feel real and flawed. Claire and Lydia’s rocky relationship and their journey to reconnect was both emotional and gripping.

The twists and turns in this book are masterfully done. The way she blends past and present is masterful, keeping you guessing all the way through. The book’s dark and gritty vibe definitely adds to the suspense.

The only downside for me was that some parts felt a bit drawn out. There were moments when the story slowed down too much, with a few scenes feeling overly detailed. It kind of interrupted the flow at times. But honestly, the compelling characters and the intense plot more than made up for it.

All in all, this is a fantastic read for anyone who loves dark thrillers. A warning though that it deals with some pretty dark subject matter.

This is a very well-written and well thought-out book. It kept me engaged despite being very long, which is a somewhat rare occurrence for me. Read this book, you will not be disappointed
