Loved

These characters just had it from the beginning. Book 1. Finally getting to this last book in the series and it has been a deeply satisfying ride.

I loved this series! From beginning to end it was amazing! I love the characters and their growth. I also loved that Elena came to Elle’s aid in the end. I felt that even though you didn’t see a complete healing of that storyline, I was left with the feeling it could heal. I loved that Elle was able to help Sin learn to live again. Once Sin realized that they could have it all, he set about making it happen!

*Spoiler alert*

This story would have been four stars but I took a star off because of Sinclair stealing and hiding her birth control was unacceptable.

I absolutely HATED this series.

Honestly, romanticizing cheating and then having Elena's family side/support the dirt-bag cheating sister because Elena was *gasp* mean to Elle once she learned of the affair?? What was Elena supposed to do? Smile and wish them well? After being hurt so terribly? Fuck that.

Their behavior and most of the family's easy acceptance of it (which ostracized Elena -- whether intentional or not) was beyond despicable. Also, trying to make Elena into a villain to justify Elle and Daniel's relationship was awful. She was the victim in this book, and while cold at times, she was the innocent party who did nothing wrong.

Read 'When Heros Fall'. It's way better and shows you the truth depth of Elena's character and everything she's dealt with. After reading Elena's series, Elle and Daniel's story was just awful. Absolute garbage about two selfish, despicable people, that only made me angry.

Daniel is a piece of shit and I'm so glad Elena ended up with someone deserving of her.

Because let's be real, Elena deserved so much better. The extended epilogue was stupid. If I were Elena, I'd never forgive Elle and Daniel. Sorry, they are both horrible people, and you don't get a free pass just because you're family.

Daniel had a responsibility to break things off with Elena before having the affair. And once they both learned Elle was Elena's sister, they continued to cheat. Not to mention the birth control incident which led to Elle getting pregnant, Daniel leading Elena on for years about marriage and a baby, only to do both things with Elle only months after meeting?

No thank you.

God I wish I could get back the hours I wasted on this series.

As I said in my review of The Secret, definitely not my favorite from Giana. I really couldn't get over Giselle and Sinclair's treatment of Elena. Having read Elena and Dante's story first and getting her backstory, I just honestly felt no sympathy towards Elle and Sin.

Yes they had a hot and steamy relationship and fit together, but how they went about their affair and how they made it seem like Elena was the villain just didn't sit right with me. And honestly found it pretty shocking that so many people in their lives (including Giselle's family) accepted their affair so easily. Elena really only had their mom on her side and to stand up for her which broke my heart all over again.

I did appreciate getting to see Elena and Dante happy in the end and that Giselle and Elena may be able to reconcile their relationship a bit, but I just still struggled so much connecting to them.

I still do love Giana's writing and am so glad I read this trilogy. I am now even more excited to read the Enslaved duet! After reading the Anti Heroes in Love Duet I was definitely more interested in Cosima's story than I was in Giselle and Sinclair's anyways, mainly due to loving Elena.

So all in all, I can't say I would necessarily recommend this trilogy, but I would 10000% recommend the Anti Heroes in Love Duet and Giana's other works (top of the list, Fallen Men)!

Spicy

Oh, the aftermath of the affair. So messy, but also fun to read about. I love how this story sucked me into a world of hurt and betrayal and lust and love. It became less about the affair here, than in the previous two books, and more about Elle and Sinclair's developing D/s relationship. Their scenes were quite lovely and watching Elle bloom (through my voyeur tinted perspective) under Sinclair's love and discipline was beautiful. How freeing it is to own your sexuality and trust your partner not to take advantage of your submission.

Though there was a lot of guilty feelings and processing how their affair took its toll on many people in their lives, but when the right person comes along, who are we to deny ourselves? It's a lovely moral question everyone will have to answer for themselves. Are we cowards to not chase our own happiness? Is guilt more powerful than true love? We make our choices and deal with the consequences. I enjoyed this story.
