It seems the author uses a black character as a vehicle to make some questionable remarks. My other thought pertaining to this is that there seems to be a white savior complex when some of the police, nurses, and neighbors are introduced.

The sociological problems could be me reading too deep into things. I’d love the opinion of a black reviewer/reader. Those things non-withstanding , it’s a very interesting book. The story of Muna’s revenge is a slow but steady build. This girl is clearly very intelligent despite not being properly educated, and she uses the fact that she’s a child to manipulate everyone. This is truly a wild ride. You feel a sense of justice as she tortures her abusive family. And then the end happens. I was very confused when the book suddenly ended where it did, because I was so engrossed I hadn’t paid attention to the time. Multiple people have talked abt that so I won’t beat the proverbial dead horse.

One of the most skillfully written, compelling pieces of horrifying anti-immigrant propaganda (!!!) I've ever read. The author is incredibly talented but unbelievably misdirected. This book might singlehandedly be responsible for Brexit.

Very dark, very short, and very naughty. Not for the faint of heart, but a seasoned horror lover will love this.

This book starts out brilliantly and I read it in one sitting, but it stumbles toward the end. I don't understand the reason why. It may honestly just be that I had the thought "this is basically screwed up Harry Potter" and then couldn't shake the thought after that.

A dark, twisted ghost story of a novel. Who are we? And what makes us that way?

Brutal, unflinching.

3.5 stars. I went into this one without reading the synopsis and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it and it was a really good revenge story. I'd recommend it...but it's also not one I see myself returning to and reading again. Entertaining but not a new favorite.

I was pretty engrossed in the creepy/haunting/eerie aesthetic that Walters brings into the plot. A true reap what you sow type story of horror yet the grotesqueness of some of the events seems a bit much until you realize that incidents like this occur in the world most likely.

Quick little horror-type read that had me wanting to finish the book just as quickly. However, not exactly sure I liked the story as much as its setting if that makes sense.

Also, dialogue is done without quotation marks for most of the book which was an odd choice but hey, I'm not a writer.
