easily one of the best nonfiction i've ever read. recommend it to absolutely everyone, especially the friends who used to bully me for wanting to sleep 8 hours a night

3.5 — Compelling but very anxiety inducing. Somewhat reductive at times.

Go the F**k to Sleep, extended cut.

I really liked this book. I found it both interesting and relevant. We are always told sleep is important, but it is not really explained. This book does it really well. How all parts of the sleep cycle has their important role. Both NREM and REM sleep is important (physical and cognitive function respectively).
The chase for more sleep through medication can do more harm than good.

Sleep is important, yet we live in a society that don’t value sleep and sets many up for failure — especially teens and young adults who have a later circadian rhythm. However, the same goes for adult to where staying awake and “hustling” is admired.
Even though better sleep can be much better for society in the long run.

I also liked that there were practical tips to get better sleep in general.

Super informative book, and important because sleep is so essential to our lives. I finally feel justified as a Night Owl ™️. Despite this book being about sleep, do not read before bed if you want to avoid anxiety around developing all of the health issues (and I seriously mean, allllll of them). Not getting enough sleep has more side effects than an American drug advertisement.

Finally finished!! Interesting to think about different impacts sleep deprivation can have. Introduction was pretty strong and the later chapters in the book felt more interesting/applicable.
