Another long review would be coming when I can dust off procrastination from my surface.

This was okay. I didn’t get an answer to my question about how much sleep to aim for (certain number of hours/ certain number of cycles?). There were lots of interesting studies but some of them were missing references and details about the number of participants so I have no idea if they were actually well-done.

“Scientists have discovered a revolutionary new treatment that makes you live longer. It enhances your memory, makes you more attractive. It keeps you slim and lowers food cravings. It protects you from cancer and dementia. It wards off colds and flu. It lowers your risk of heart attacks and stroke, not to mention diabetes. You’ll even feel happier, less depressed, and less anxious. Are you interested?”

This book is IMPORTANT! I think people in America way undervalue sleep. We lionize people who work 16 hours and sleep very little. We see them as productive- but the science says otherwise.

The following is the tiniest of samples of the amazing information and facts from this book:

A person driving sleep deprived (less than 4 hours) is as impaired as someone who is drunk.

In the long term, sleep deprivation increases the risk of Alzheimer's (since toxins are flushed from the brain during sleep), heart attacks (by provoking a stress response from the sympathetic nervous system and raising blood pressure) and cancer (by devastating the immune system). All of these seem to be very big effects - e.g. sleep-deprived patients are twice to three times as likely to suffer calcification of their coronary arteries.

Walker's broad answer to the question of what sleep is useful for: EVERYTHING. In addition to the above, sleep helps us overcome traumatic memories, reduces athletes' injury rates, makes us look more attractive, reduces food cravings, and so on and so on...

I was constantly fascinated and amazed by what I found out about sleep. You can die from the deprivation of sleep. Your body and brain will simply shut down. All animals, insects, even bacteria sleep! Seals require different types of sleep in the ocean than they do on land. Sleep affects your memory- SIGNIFICANTLY.

I learned SO MUCH from this book. Sleep has become a major priority for me now.

Do your health a favor and read this book!

Súper interesante. He aprendido muchísimo y me ha ayudado a cambiar algunos hábitos.

I gave up
