In The Stone Monkey, Lincoln and Amelia are tasked with tracking down 'The Ghost', a snakehead trying to kill the illegal immigrants who were aboard his ship.
For me, this fourth Lincoln Rhyme thriller was a well told, interesting and gripping installment in the series, and I especially enjoyed the development in Lincoln and Amelia's relationship.
This is only behind The Vanished Man and The Bone Collector for me, it kept me hooked and although I had an inkling about the perp, I certainly did not work out the ending, it still had me shocked!
Definitely give this one a go, the relationship aspect along with the introductions of some really likeable characters, who you feel for, plus the final twists and turns makes it a really really entertaining read.

I think more 4.5 stars on this, but edging closer to a 5 so I'll give it a 5 on goodreads! Only deducting the slightest bit because I saw /part/ of a twist coming.
The thing is, in my last Jeffery Deaver review I got so upset with his plot twists because they all happened right on top of one another and didn't really go with the story in my opinion. It's completely different in this book! I didn't see any of the twists coming (well, one, but it was well executed, part of a bigger twist that I didn't see coming, and partially due to my attention to the evidence), they were well spaced, and they advanced the story so well!
I'm so ready to read more of this series.

The Lincoln Rhyme series continues with this unlikely story, full of orientalism as the protagonist does his best updated Nero Wolfe schtick. Deaver waxes on in every opportunity to dance out in great detail how forensic science works. Though CSI and the Patricia Cornwell books have been around for quite a while now, I guess writers can only assume minimal forensic knowledge in their readers, so they don't scare them off with too many acronyms. At the same time, they risk boring readers who keep up those developments. Ah well, Deaver's books roll along quickly and stick to the edge of reality, though this one features driving over 70 miles an hour through Manhattan, regularly. Yep, ok, sure.
I am reading the Lincoln Rhyme series in order. I figured since I have already read three of the books in the Lincoln Rhymes series I had figured out the ending before I got to it, especially considering I had come to expect surprise endings. But Jeffery Deaver out-witted me again, I was once again surprised by the ending! I love the twists and turns in this book. And my favorite part of the book is that Mr. Deaver completes the story for all the characters. I like stories that don't require me to guess the ending for the characters introduced throughout the story, especially the ones I start to care about. Mr. Deaver did that for me in this book. IMHO, this book is a must read!
Re-read May 2021, my LEAST favorite Lincoln Rhyme book AGAIN
I really enjoyed the stories of the Chinese immigrants and even their purser. Sonny Li was my favorite character in the book. However, based on the previous books, forensics and Lincoln take a back seat in this story. All the usual players, with the exception of Amelia, are not prominent in this one.
That didn’t bother me at all because the other characters more than made up for it.
