I'd never read any of Brockmann's work before, but since this was a gay romance, I thought I'd give it a try. While I found the characters to be likeable enough, I didn't believe their relationship. The writing didn't impress me (in fact, I laughed at a few select paragraphs), and the plot was kind of boring. There was no sex, just the intimation of it (and even then, it was only hours after one of the guys had food poisoning--seriously, Suz? no.), which was okay in a way because it showed there is more to gay men than sex, but was disappointing for a romance novel. Bottom line: women should not attempt to write male-male romances.

I couldn't help myself, I ended up smashing both of the Jules/Robin novels in a day and falling in love with them all over again. Somehow I'd managed to forget the entire stalker backstory!

The novella is more of a collection of vingnettes into the lives of the Cassidy, but still leaves you wanting for more, more, more.

My feelings on this book are complicated.

I think it was great a writer in 2007 was pushing  for a queer romance and listening to her talk in interviews about her ongoing struggle to include gay characters in her novels in part because of her gay son.

However, there were moments that made me wince. I know you can’t look at a book published 15 years ago and expect it to hold up to today’s standards but there were still hard parts of this book.

I also think this was more of a series of vignettes than an actual novel.

That being said I’m glad this existed and what it may have mean to queer people reading it 2007.

This is the curtain fic ending to the Robin/Jules trilogy and it really is the HEA get married epilogue, so I enjoy it less than the other books but I'm glad it exists, and I'm glad it was written when it was.
