A sweet western historical with a Dr. Quinn feel.

This one is a bit mis-marketed, it is not a historical romance, do not go into this thinking this is a book focussed on a love story. This is historical fiction about a woman doctor travelling to Colorado to regroup after a devastating scandal. This is a good story about a woman overcoming a lot of society biases as well as coming to terms with her own mistakes and behaviour.
There is a small side interest with the town’s former sheriff Jack, but that is not the focus of this story.
Once I figured out that this is book one of three in a series with the same protagonist, I leaned back and enjoyed its slower pace. Ellie has a lot of learning and growing to do, friends to make and enemies to deal with. The ending is not a cliff hanger but it’s a happy for now as Ellie has a lot more work to do to be accepted and it definitely has a serial feeling with the obvious intention of leading you into the next book. With a very light, Sunday family movie vibe; this is no a deep dive historical or gritty western.
Overall it was an entertaining read and I will be continuing with the series.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review. I really enjoyed this book, it was well paced, fun to read, had a great headstrong female main character and a handsome cowboy as the cherry on top. It felt light, a nice easy read that makes me want to see what else the author has done - as it’s nice to read a book with things going on that isn’t DRAMA DRAMA, but more drama and real life

A hidden gem 💎

Goodness, I really quite loved this book! It was warm & homely.. and just really pleasant.

I adored being taken back in time, it was charming. The writing is very clean and flows really well.

I loved the slow burn and I loved that there wasn't a tonne of drama added just for the sake of it. The story is very simple.

I was definitely left wanting more so I'm thrilled that this book is the first of a series! I really hope that the following installments take the same approach, especially the romance, I hope it's a slow, comfortable burn.

I really look forward to seeing more from these characters.

A wonderful Western Historical Romance perfect for Dr. Quinn fans.

I was so excited when I read the blurb for this upcoming book because I was a HUGE fan of the old Dr. Quinn series and was eager to read a historical romance that featured a female doctor practicing in the American west! Dr. Elliot (Ellie) Lennox trained in Boston and began her early days of practice there, but after an unfortunate medical mistake, couldn’t continue practicing and needed a fresh start. She journeys west to Colorado to open a clinic in the small town of Sage Canyon. I absolutely loved all the characters in this novel. Each one, from Audrey, the boarding house owner, to Jack, who may share a connection with Ellie, had their own little piece of the story. I loved the little medical stories and getting to see what rural life was like back in Colorado at the turn of the century, and also what it was like to practice rural medicine back then. I very much hope there will be more books in this series as I want to see what happens to the characters as they further develop.

Ellie Lennox defies societal norms to pursue her dream of becoming a physician. Then one deadly error made as a new doctor costs Ellie Lennox her job, her reputation, and even her engagement to a local lawyer. A new start, even in a rustic Rocky Mountain mining town, is preferable to Ellie than giving up her profession, so she accepts the post of physician to Sage Canyon, Colorado. But upon reaching the town, Ellie ruffles feathers before she makes friends. I enjoyed this well-written historical romance and was fully engaged in Ellie's adventures in a new, rustic environment, where each day seemed like it could be her last day of employment.

This is a squeaky clean and wholesome historical romance. The most action in this book is a little bit of kissing. The only slightly risqué content was mention of the prostitute’s gossip that Ellie overheard. It did not go into detail about what Ellie heard, though. I loved watching the Dr. Quinn show growing up. This book reminded me of it a good bit. I found Ellie’s character likable though she did try too hard as other characters in the book pointed out to her. She came off as a bit arrogant sometimes, but that added to her character development.

I felt the first 3/4 of the book dragged a bit. The writing and prose were very good, but it felt like Ellie’s character was just waiting for a catastrophe to befall her. At the end of the book when the truth was finally revealed, I felt she was scrambling to do damage control. That made the ending feel rushed and anticlimactic to me. I also would’ve appreciated more romance and a HEA. We just got a HFN. I recommend this book if you like historical Western and clean romances that remind you of Dr. Quinn.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
