I agree that somehow in this book, so much yet so little simultaneously happened. The plot itself seemed to be quite shallow yet drawn out. Personally, I didn't feel any sort of attachment to the characters until I was 3/4 of the way through, and the plot didn't really entice me too much either. That said, I enjoyed the last 1/4 of the book and because of that, I'll be reading the sequel. I think I would have preferred this book if the five characters were more personally involved with each other. They have not all interacted with each other, some did, but not all five at the same time for sure. I'm hoping the sequel will bring together a reason for them to come together, but by the way this book ended, I think that's unlikely.

Fun, fast-paced, kept my attention no matter which POV we were in. All but 1 or 2 of the "twist" reveals weren't a complete surprise, but still enjoyed the ride! Not necessarily looking forward to the fact that this is a trilogy(+?), but hopefully it can keep up the pace in book 2.

DNF at 5%. I COULD NOT FINISH THIS. I Just couldn’t. It felt so boring, a very slow beginning i even tried reading it over. Nope nothing. I had zero compulsion to carry on with it, i never thought about it, nor about picking it up. I literally don’t care.

It's very rare for me to find a book with a style and story so engaging I don't want to put it down -and this is definitely one of those books!

However, this won't be for everyone. If you're looking for a lot of action, you may want to pass this over. If you're looking for heart-racing romance, you may want to miss this.

But if you enjoy stories that are entirely character-driven, that use the small moments of action and romance to enhance the story and move it forward instead of trying to steal the spotlight, that isn't worried about using a slower pace to help build up the world and the characters-

This might just be the story for you.

Nothing in this story will really surprise anyone; I guessed one of the biggest plot points early on. But the story seemed more interested in studying how the other characters reacted to those twists and turns, and how those plot points moved the characters to their final points in the book.

I really enjoyed this, and can highly recommend it!

"'Then I will stay with you...until the end.'"

This is my fourth...fifth...sixth?...time reading this book and it's still one of my all-time favorites.

Things I love about this book:
- Greco-Roman-inspired world with lots of magic!
- Jude and Anton, no explanation necessary
- the ANGST
- the way every piece of the book fits together like a puzzle at the end
- the color scheme of the world? I don't know if that makes sense but I like it
- the beginning of a found family...
- the foreshadowing...
Spoiler every time Anton mentions how Jude's Grace calls out to him

If you are one of those people that thinks the characters are more important than the plot when reading a book, this is definitely for you. There are multiple povs where you get to know each character and their motivations and passions, and that allows you to form your own opinion of them based on that and not just their actions, and I find this really interesting.
Just as with every book in this style, I found some characters and story lines more compelling than others, but at the same time the povs switch very quickly so you don't get bored in the parts you're not so interested in. The prophesy and the people involved in it were my favourite part of the book, but I fear it will get lost in the midst of the conflict in the sequel. I've read way too many fantasy books to still like the war part, so I really enjoy more character based novels.

I really liked The Will Come a Darkness, let's see how the series continues.
