This book was okay. I liked the premise and it was a new idea, but a few things rubbed me the wrong way. First of all, there were a few holes, for example, the business dealings between Leah's father and his associate seemed to have come out of nowhere and didn't make sense when Jessica brought it up to Mr. Montgomery. My second peeve with the book was during the time when Leah/Jessica was trying to kill herself in order to see her grandmother. I understand the importance of this in the book, but as a psychologist, it bothered me personally that teen girls would be reading about a teenager so lightly brainstorming ways of how to commit suicide. The book was enjoyable, but I will not be reading the others in the series.

Got some random young adult books from the library while waiting for my holds to come in. This one was intriguing because it is your typical teen girl book (girl is unsatisfied with her life because she wants to be cool and popular but then finally learns that her life is actually pretty awesome after all) with a bit of a twist. It's kind of morbid - Amber, the protagonist of this story, dies within the first few chapters of the book and when she is supposed to be returned to her own body by her loving, dead grandmother, she accidentally returns to the body of the most popular girl of the whole school, who has just attempted to commit suicide.
While I enjoyed watching Amber struggle with/learn from her predicament, this book really stressed me out and I absolutely DETESTED the ending with its lack of resolution/stress relief (cliffhanger for Dead Girl #2).

I think I could say a lot of what I didn't like about this book, but that just seems a little mean-maybe it just really wasn't for me. Mainly, the characters seemed shallow to me-both in actual personality and development-the main character more than anyone else, actually, but since the reader is stuck with her, it's hard to overlook. The love story is flat and awful. Let me explain a tiny bit of plot:

Unpopular girl (Amber) has near-death experience, but whens she comes back, ends up in the wrong body, a popular girl (Leah) who previously tried to commit suicide. Leah, her family, and their hired help, were the only characters I found interesting and somewhat complex. I wanted to know more about why the hired help were the way they were, more about her little brother, and more about Leah's life in general and I was disappointed that there wasn't much closure with any of it-there wasn't a lot to tell the reader how the family ended up/continued on after the book, and I wanted to know more about them. I also felt like foreshadowing about the family was left throughout the book and never resolved. Maybe it's in the sequels...

For most of this book, I didn't really enjoy reading it. However, it is a series, and I do actually really like the premise it makes for all the rest of the books-and interesting "Quantum Leap" type idea comes up, which makes me almost want to read more of the books even though I didn't enjoy this one much. :p I'll still pick them up at a library book sale. And maybe if I do, I'll eventually find out more about Leah and her family.

Taking into account that I am about 20 years too old for the book, it wasn't terrible. 12 year old me would have liked it.

There were flaws, like the MC always seems surprised that her friends/family don't recognize her, or that the dark-lifers are completely irrelevent to the storyline. Still, a nice story with solid characters and good life lessons.

Awalnya mau kasih bintang 3 aja, tapi aku naikin deh.

Jadi skrg baca dlm rangka nostalgia wkwk.

Padahal nih ya, ceritanya tuh bikin greget banget.

Popular girl & unpopular girl in high school. What happens if they switch bodies. Gee, the popular girl doesn’t have the perfect life!! A bit of a fun read, but no real surprises in the book.

Two series I'd heard about sounded kind of similar. This one (Dead Girl,) and Ghostgirl. Since I don't have time to read every intriguing-sounding book, I had a choice to make. I decided on Dead Girl.

In Dead Girl Walking, Amber Borden, a girl whose family isn't well off, yet who has dreams of becoming someone, takes a wrong turn at the light at the light when trying to return to her body after being hit by the mail truck which had just delivered the good news about her college acceptance. She ends up in the body of the rich and seemingly perfect Leah Montgomery. It turns out that Leah's life isn't what it looks like, which is what lead her to the suicide attempt that left both of their bodies vulnerable at the same time.

Amber has to figure out how to return to her body, first convincing a friend or two that despite the packaging, it really is Amber underneath, and discovering exactly what lead Leah to give up on life.

A quick and fun read, with a little bit of seriousness (beyond death, anyway,) that keeps it from being too fluffy.
