Another galloping romance with wonderful Georgette Heyer. Hadn't re-read this one in years.

I always enjoy stories that are a bit of a farce, when you start with a silly scheme that gets out of hand and goes rocketing from situation to situation. I adored Freddy, a standard bearer of fashion and decorum but certainly no brainiac, and watching him work his brain to get Kitty out of scrapes and think of ways to present their situation as perfectly normal and absolutely respectable. He managed to fool quite a lot of people and even managed to impress his father! I found Kitty to be a bit immature, but overall the story is charming. I don't find it as good as some Heyer's other books simply because while I can fathom Freddy being very fond of Kitty, I don't actually feel that he's fallen in love at the end.

The characters really mature through this book. I had a hard time with Kitty and Freddy at the beginning. Kitty was a bit immature and Freddy they just made seem dim. But Kitty grew up a bit and Freddy once he had a purpose wasn’t stupid at all. I loved the end of this book.

I do wish Heyer had made Freddy speak in full sentences, it bugged me the entire time and made him seem more stupid than necessary.

I was pretty disappointed in this book just because I found its name on a top 100 list of Romance Novels and it was pretty high up on the list. I've read a few other books by Georgette Heyer that I enjoyed so much more than Cotillion. I recommend Frederica, or Friday's Child which are a bit more amusing and endearing.

In order to inherit her great uncle's fortune, Kitty must marry one of the men in the family. Always in love with her cousin, Jack Westruther, she hatches a plan to propose to another of their cousins so that she can get to London and out into society. There she is going to make Jack so jealous, he will want to sweep her off her feet. Little does she know, that once she expeirences more of life, her childhood dreams might not be want she wants or needs.

Greatly enjoyed this Georgette Heyer. I don’t want to include any spoilers, but it’s a bit of a departure from her usual formula and I enjoyed the unexpected twist. I don’t think Cotillion is usually ranked as a top tier Heyer, but I’d put it up there.

Has there ever been a couple as delightful as Kitty and Freddy? No there has not.

I tried reading this once before and couldn't get through the first chapter but I gave it a second chance and glad I did. It's a bit slow in the beginning but it does get going. This might be tied for my #2 spot with Georgette Heyer books just because the main man wasn't a rake! Liked that Freddy was just a kindhearted guy just being thoughtful. Some fun little twists in the story and many regency phrases that I had to look up their meaning.
