This is the 3rd book in the Callahan security series and is probably my favorite. I loved the story. There was enough drama and suspense to keep the story going right from the beginning. I loved it and I will continue to read more by this author.

Hit and Run is my first book by Lori Matthews, and whilst I did enjoy it part of me wishes I had read the previous stories in this series not that it would be necessary to understand this one, but because when it starts it feels like it's picking up a story rather than beginning one. So for me, I felt like I didn't quite have the whole picture.

But it certainly lived up to the genre, and it had some moments of action going on, not to mention some humour. Thanks to a group of grannie's, who Dani befriends whilst she and Gabe are trying to make their way safely back from Alaska. And I did quite like Dani and Gabe, but I wasn't one hundred percent convinced by their romance, and I felt like the ending was too neat and tidy, especially considering how they initially parted.

Yet all in all it was a satisfying and intriguing story, and having a second chance to read it error free really helped me discover that. Which is why I changed my initial rating of 3.75 to 4 stars.

Would recommend, especially to anyone who is a fan of the series.

Dani loves her work as a hacker. She knows that she wants to help others because she doesn’t always know the best way to do so. With her job, she can pick and choose jobs to make sure she’s doing such. Since she has lived a life with no family, she knows that taking a job to search for a family member is important. She lives by her own set of moral codes and will do what she can to help.

Gage is very much a guy who believes in the laws and rules that are set out, and those rules are never to be broken. When he’s sent to watch over Dani, it's not an ideal job for him. His best friend was killed at the hands (and/or words) of a hacker. He doesn’t believe in any honor when it comes to what her job is. He’s determined to finish the job and be done.

Their journey is a lot of ups and downs, trying to dodge the bad guys who are willing to do whatever it takes to get their hands on Dani. They have to work together to both come out of this crap alive. The overall story is suspenseful, intriguing, and steamy! I loved their story and I will be going back to read the other books in the series. Well done!

Dani has been leading the Callahan Security team on a merry chase. gage has been trawling Europe for her but she has been hiding out in Alaska! It takes her attaining a possible assassin to make her wise up and admit where she is hiding! She may be a great hacker but she is a crappy informant LOL.

Gage starts off in a bad mood and not exactly wanting to be Dani's knight in shining armour. Sure She's pretty but she is also a hacker - he through she was a dweeb in a lab somewhere, a genuine IT whizzkid.

I read an ARC copy from NetGalley and I had to become a bit of a code breaker as lots of words had the “fi”,“ff” and “th” missing. It didn't corrupt the story but did make it exceedingly jarring to read. I do hope that has been fixed in the copy now released.

Solid 3.5 star read in my opinion, only let down was the missing letters. Gage was fabulously grouchy and Dani really knew how to punch his buttons. Some of the best scenes were on a Cruise ship with some very entertaining OAPS!

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review.

Hit and Run is the third standalone novel in the author’s Callahan Security series. In this book, Gage is back in the US and frustrated as hell after running around Europe in the fruitless search for a computer programmer who he was assigned to protect...only to find out she’d been hiding out in Alaska the entire time. Computer programmer and hacker extraordinaire Dani considers the dark web to be her second home, but she realizes she’s in too deep when multiple attempts are made on her life. Dani begrudgingly accepts Gage’s help when it becomes clear to her that without him, there’s no chance that she’ll make it out alive when she heads to New York to deliver her cutting-edge facial recognition software. Their alpha personalities clash and the chemistry between them grows as they try to make it to New York in one piece.

I do love me an enemies-to-lovers “ohh nooo there’s only one bed so I guess we’ll have to share

“Hit and Run” continues to star the swoon worthy Callahan brothers, with this third book shining the spotlight on the final sibling, Gage Callahan.  Almost as irresistible as the Callahan men, are the sights author Lori Matthews sets them against in this series finale.

Tracking down Drake’s hacker, Dani, has been anything but smooth sailing for Gage Callahan. So, when he finally finds her, he expects a warmer welcome, he is trying to save her life after all.  Dani’s cold shoulder only gets cooler as Gage forces her on a cruise ship, the only way out of Alaska on short notice given the impending storm, but how is Gage to know Dani is paralyzingly scared of water.  The intensity only ratchets up from there as the two become forcefully entangled in each other’s lives and hearts.

The problem with a great series is that you never want the story to end, each book is cherished that much more as you drive toward the finish line.  It is for that reason I delayed reading this book for so long, because turning the final page in “Hit and Run” meant the Callahan Security Series was really ending.  The second problem with a magnificent series is that each successive book is constantly being compared to the last.  For instance, book one, “Break and Enter,” got the fire going, starting this series off hot!  Book two, “Smash and Grab,” brought us comfort in Matthews’ writing as we were transported to a tropical island with more of the swoony Callahan men.  So, book three almost begins to feel like a letdown in comparison as we forego the European and tropical vacations for an Alaskan cruise ship.

However, book three successfully continues to showcase Matthews’ passionate love scenes, albeit with a more forced chemistry than we are used to – blame it on Dani’s fear of water and the added “nerdiness” of the characters portrayed.  The writing also felt more rushed as the villains were right on their heels the whole book, seemingly one step ahead of Gage the whole time.  But, “Hit and Run” continues to pack the punch we’ve become accustomed to with Matthews’ writing.  “Hit and Run,” as well as the entire Callahan Security Series, stands above the pack as one of the more unique, engaging and engrossing romantic suspense trilogies out there.  Each book reading successfully as a standalone or as an all encompassing series, just be warned, while “Hit and Run” brings with it the end of the Callahan Security era, it will also leave you mourning the loss of an amazing cast of characters and thrills.
