Blah. I listened to one CD of the story, which seemed to take FOREVER, and I dreaded listening to any more of it. It seemed so predictable. Basically you can read the back cover as to what the story is about and it tells you all you need to know right there. From that outline you can see the story and the plot coming a mile away. I gave it two stars as maybe if I was more into historical fiction I wouldn't find it all so boring. And maybe it's me coming off of my The Handmaid's Tale scare but I just couldn't enjoy another story of a woman (girl in this case) being used by family and by some schmuck in power as a sexual pet and a body to do with as they please. There is no appeal to reading more of the same upsetting story.
(2019 Year of Epic Reads Weekly Challenge #36: Read a book with "Girl" in the title.)
In my mind, this is the standard I measure all other historical fiction novels by. Few compare.
I could barely put this book down!
Although this is historical fiction, it is quite true to what actually happened.
Mary Boleyn is a young lady of 14, when she comes to court, gets married and then catches the eye of King Henry VIII. She quickly falls in love with the king, although she's serving Queen Katherine in her court. At the push of her families ambitions, she beds the king and has two children by him (Catherine and Henry). But since she's not married to him, these children aren't to be his heirs. While giving birth to her second child, the family pushes her sister, Anne Boleyn, to the forefront. After 5+ years of flirting, tempting, and doing everything but actual intercourse, the king finally divorces Queen Katherine and exiles her. Anne marries the king and quickly has a daughter, Elizabeth. However, she is brash and tough on her husband, the king. And she soon teaches him how to treat her. Anne conceives and miscarries 3 children. No boy to be heir. In the end, the Boleyn name is looked down upon and spoiled.

God I love this book, such a fun read, great character development, small history lesson, juicy plot and juicier characters. The author does a great job of writing the characters. You hate and love Anne Boleyn at the same time
Great book! I'm a fan of English history, and love it when it's presented in a semi-fictional setting. Makes it so much more fun to read. Worth picking up, and explains why Queen Elizabeth I hated her sister Mary so much!
I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who favors historical romance. At first the thought of 600 pages scared me (I have small kids) but it actually didnt FEEL 600 pages at all! It's set in king and queen times, has mistresses, birth, what its like living in royalty and what its like not being in royalty. Really describes the hardships women went through. I really enjoy most books by this author as well.
Loved this book - not sure exactly how much is factually true but a great read. Will definitely read more by this author.
