Very Entertaining

This is a fun and easy read. Especially if you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson stories. I definitely recommend it.

Tl;dr: A fun story with relatable characters, a good narrative voice, and measure of wit and humor.

A Study of Charlotte is Sherlock Holmes with a modern twist in which the story follows the lives of Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson, the three-times great grandchildren of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. At first glance this story feels cliche and insipid, but Cavallaro conquers several complex ideas in her introductory installment. Masterfully introducing our two protagonists, Cavallaro doesn't hesitate to throw in a dead body and a mystery to test the waters. Throughout the story you watch Charlotte and Jamie interact with one another and follow their budding friendship. While the story itself is brief, it packs a great deal of character development and suspense in a small package, that will leave you reaching for it's sequel.

Oh, dear...I really wish this book was good. It just isn't. It just reads like a Wattpad Fem!Sherlock, Johnlock, college au fanfiction. My johnlock heart doesn't accept this.

I'm a sucker for a good Sherlock Holmes adaption so when I saw this YA novel about Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson (the original Watson & Holmes' descendants in the present day), I snapped it up. In many ways, it was good and interesting. The character work was well done and I liked Charlotte and Jamie's relationship. Jamie was a pretty fun narrator. But I did not enjoy it entirely. The mystery, in my opinion, depends too much on Watson/Holmes/Moriarty drama and not enough on actual plot. It was not a particularly well constructed mystery.

I was also deeply unsettled by the fact that sexual violence is part of the villain's plot. Would that have happened to a male Sherlock Holmes? Certainly not, and my enjoyment of a female version of Sherlock was severely damaged because of that aspect to the book.

loved it a lot more the second time I read it, still a bit confused about a few events in the book but I guess I’ll just annoy someone into giving me a summary. 4.5

A good read, very fun, but I didn’t have too much of an attachment towards the characters. Will definitely be continuing the series.

Meh. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good either, in my opinion. I liked that it was from Jamie’s POV instead of Charlotte’s, but I still didn’t really like either of them. I also think it was made worse since it took me so long to finish it.
